Heh all--I'm trying to get the fact-gathering mission together on putting together the cmp Hellcat. Had the plane --for a year + and the assoc Jap "Zero"(to dogflight!!)also. Amongst the input I'm looking for on:

>> glassing the wings ( great info was prev obtained from a "Bossman" post on that) and finishing with exacting paint schemes (1943-'44 3 color) I'm in the preliminary stages of setting up to "beef up" the attach point of the retract gear in the wings. Some folks have said they needed to "beef up" the main wing spar due to having to cut it during retract install...., they said that was necessary for the Sierra gear installation-??) Other changes I'm told are necessary for a strong and operationally sound gear installation.

Are there some common "musts" out that you Sierra installer / craftsman stand on commom grounds on?? Any Sierra installers wish to throw something out there? One question I'm told is to "change out the balsa ribs" that are immediately adjacent to the gear attach points in the wing, and replace with ply--makes engineering sense to me!! Does anyone lightly "glass" the gear box assembly to the surrounding wing to increase the "footprint" of load to the wing, so that occassional "true Navy Carrier landing" that will eventually occur doesn't drive the entire assembly through the top of the wing??

The most obvious necessity seems to be to "change out the balsa ribs" and replace ----for true load-bearing. Sounds like I need to do that "arthoscopically" through the wing skin---any suggestions on that, before I cut open some wing ??

Did anyone buy pre-built gear doors??--- I'm thinking of building mine out of light ply, and glass 'em.

>>Painting and finishing --I'm looking for good Glow fuel resistant scale paints to use....
Suggestions??

>> The Zollar (??) cockpit kit just came in----looks great!!----Gonna detail this one up!!

Thanks all--in advance---Edward A. Sarkisian Sarks757@aol.com
