Am I crazy wanting putting a gas Brison 3.2 on it?

I'm planning to dowel pin the firewall to sides, nose sides to the fuse, as well as gusseting up the entire cabin area.

I once flew a Sig Full Wing 1/4 scale Cub with a G-23 and it was quite a pig. I'm looking for way more power than that had to offer. I thought about the 2.4 at 21lbs. of thrust but for $50 more I can have 26 lbs. of thrust for only a little extra weight.

I manage the throttle so I will probably spend most of my time flying at 1/3 or 1/2 throttle. It would be nice to have the extra power for hovering too.

My idea exactly, but with a Super Cub. I would love to be able to putt around and doing low speed passes and then pull up into a hover then pull straight to high altitude. Cool!

How are you going to land it? Dead stick?

are you saying the prop would be too long for proper ground clearance? I didn't think of that.

No, I am saying that the motor will need a 20x10 prop, that even with ground clearance will not turn slow enough, to slow the plane down. It would have a very high landing speed, and probably will not set still at low idle.

Does any one have a instruction manual for a 1/4 scale sig clipped wing cub? I bought a partially built plane but have no manual to verify construction.

Mine flies great on a Saito 150, I think you sould keep the 3.2 for a 3D aerobatic plane. If you want to really haul the Cub around, why not a large 4-stoker? The new OS 200 would be a great match and would give that great scale 4-stroke sound every Cub should have.

The 3.2 gasser will also force u to hack up the cowl, by the way.

I have a Saito 1.80 in my Sig 1/4 scale. More than enough power. No hover, but hey, it's a Cub. IMHO you would also have to modify the elevator/stabilizer to allow enough rudder travel to hold any kind of decent hover. As it is, you only have about 1.0 inches right and left. For normal flying that is just fine. Mine does the most beautiful flat spins. Problem with the big glow engines is fuel economy. I have a 16 ounce tank and use most of it in a 10 minute flight putting around at 1/2 throttle.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yeah, I like the sound of the four strokers too. I had a Saito 150 on my CGM Bucker Jungmann Bipe. Awesome combo.

Lots of power.

I had it on a Balsa Nova 120 recently and it went in 1/2 throttle rolling nose down due to some receiver trouble and broke lots of stuff in the motor. Looks like the crank, case, and head all survived but it broke the intake manifold and carb up pretty bad. So it out of the mix for a while.

I was looking for less mess (oil) and more power for the cub.

I'm going to try to get a 1/4 super cub cowl, I'm hoping that'll cover the gasser better without too much hacking.

I won't be hovering it too much, it would just be fun to play around with occasionally. So, I wont be modifying the tail any other than bracing. I'll already have to modify enough with the nose and beefing up the weak points for the gasser.
