Status: offline 		How do you balance a 12S pack? Do i need two 10 cell balancers like TP210?
How would you wire the pack so both balancers know the same voltage the other
cells are?

Status: offline 		Could make two seperate 6S packs, charge and balance them seperately and make a series connection adapter to run them in series as a 12S pack for your application.

Status: offline 		Thanks but that seams to be the easy way out.
I was thinking more if i could crossover cables from on set 6cells to the other half so they both are at the same voltage allways.
Does anybody know if in the balancers which input takes priority??

Status: offline 		You better make 2 of 6S1p packs and charge them as 6S pack.
when fly just connect them in serial you have 12S1p.
i am using cell pro 4S. I make 3S1p pack for my trex and connect them in serial to make 6S1p for my hdx500.
I just charge it as 3S pack by cellpro 4S

Status: offline 		The only charger/balancer system that can do what you desire is the Hyperion eos1210i with 2=lba10 balancers linked together. One balancer becomes a slave to the other and together will balance your 12s pack, but you will have to put 2 balancer taps on your 12s pack as the lba10 only recognizes 6cells each, hence 2-lba10's. So in practice build your pack as a 12s pack, install 2 balance taps and you are good to go, the balancers think you have 2-6s packs hooked-up and balance them to each other. What's cool is Hyperion makes a balance tap for guys building their own A123 packs that plug directly into the lba10 balancer, you need 2 for a 12s pack. You don't necessesarily need the eos1210i charger for the balancer system to work, but it is a sweet and well thought out functional battery management system.

Status: offline 		Hi there, 12s1p well I am using the same packages with one charger which is and balancer. like caotri mention the idea is deviding the battery pack when charging and using. i bought a charger which uses this idea and am pretty keen on it..

Status: offline 		I use the new Robbe 12s balancer designed for a123to balance my 12s2p pack.
Look at www.robbe.com with ref: 8484. Do not forget to order the cables at the same time.
I was using two V-Balance before, but each balance his own 6s pack without looking at the other.

Status: offline 		I have some 7S1P A123 packs wired with 3 /4 TP balance wires.
I use Blinky (A123 version) balancers, one on each 3 or 4 connector.
So the 3 set balances and the 4 set balances.
I have not seen a difference between the 3 cell set & the 4 cell sets.

Love these A123 cells but they sure do take a chunk of amp-hours out of my 125Ah lead-acid field battery! The Orbit shoves 6A at 25V+ into them - thats almost 15A draw off the big battery. I charged them once off the van's battery and it barely started!
If I do this much more, I will need a second big battery or one of those super-quiet Honda 1kw generators!
The IRONY - needing a GAS generator to power my ELECTRIC planes! ROFLOL

Hahahaha,

That sounds about like the intelligence of the way some of these "green" people think They would be telling you how great it is that you are flying electric, while you are burning 10 times as much gas with the generator as you would in the plane. It reminds me of the 10% ethanol we have in gas now, it takes as much energy to produce it, burns out the land for fuel instead of producing food, and the green activists think they are doing the world a favor.

Status: offline 		I have just recently started using a123 cells in a 12s1p configeration,2x 6s1p,I am also biulding some 4s1p packs
for use in smaller plane with axi 2820-10,at th present time i am charging with 2 FMA Direct balance pro HD chargers,
and a large deep cycle marine battery 730 cold cranking amps, I dont see any total amp hour rating on the battery.
I think this battery is big enough to last all day at the flying field charging 2 packs at a time,the down side is its a
heavy battery to move about.

Status: offline 		Two 125 Ah / RC210 in parallel. Total of 250 Ah and 420 min. / 7 hours Reserve minutes.

Reserve minutes is time a 25A load casn be substained by battery.

This setup is capable of charging 300 ea. A123 2300 cells from empty to full.That' 100 3S pack , 75 4S pack ,30 10S packs etc. take your pick.

Most times I fly between 4 and 7 packs of between 3S and 5S and after a session they are still at or above 90% charged.

"If you are not a novice in electricity consider this.

I am able to charge packs beyond 4S with my FMA cellpro chargers. If you wire the node connectors, for a 6S as an example, as a 4S and 2S pack you can charge each "sub-pack" individually. So using a single charger you charge the 4S and then the 2S. The balancing ability of the charger allows you to do this.

Now here is a trick.... with two cellpro chargers you can charge both the 2S and the 4S at the same time! To do this you MUST have each charger on separate, isolated, 12VDC sources. Many AC/DC 12VDC power supplies have isolated outputs. If in doubt use two 12VCD gell cells or car batteries. The concern is that the negative side of the chargers can short circuit one of the packs if both chargers are connected to the same 12V source. For me this is an inexpensive way to charge larger packs accurately and easily."

Status: offline 		To continue from above..... theoretically you can very large packs and wire them up in multiples of 4S packs. In the case of a 12S you would have 3 sets of 4S node connectors. Charging them individually, with a single FMA cellpro will always work. After 3 charge cycles you have a fully charged and balanced 12S pack. This is the cheapest, easiest and most accurate way. The down side is that the charge time may be longer than an hour.
