Does any body know are there any pinions for a 2mm shaft that will work on the vendetta?

A motor that's under load has a certain resistance. From there your regular electrical properties apply. i=v/r. Increase voltage and current also increases. p=vi. It's just like other electric endeavors where power is proportional to the square of voltage (e.g. overclocking )

So if your motor is using 30A under 11v, dropping to 7v will reduce the amp draw too - I ran this motor on my mamba and quark33 before. It was only when I upped the voltage to 3 lithium cells did I swap out those for a roadster esc.

motors are a little weird since a back emf applies. Under no load, the motor applies a voltage working as a generator that is very near that of the applied, so current is low on a freely spinning motor.

Hey thanks for the tip on where to get the pinions from. I take it the Anderson MB4 is the same car or what? I saw a couple from Atomic that said they have a 2mm shaft that is what I am looking for. It doesnt say anything about the pitch. I am not sure what that is for those pinions. What exactly is the pitch on the gears on the Vendetta?

Ok, got tired of waiting for the LHS to get my Ammo 3900 so I just took home a Align 4050 they had in stock. (I know Tower has them now, but LHS was cutting me a deal.) They didn't have the 3700 either. For $37 it was worth trying out.

Brushless Finally !!!

I just had to a chance to do some quick night time speed runs, so I had to be careful when it got a bit far away since lighting was a bit low. WOW, what an improvement over the VR3. I had some intermittent cogging just at startup. I was running the default ESC settings. After the testing, I changed from the default low to high power startup. I hope that does the trick.

The 4050 gets a bit warm, the ESC (Mamba 25) seems to stay cool, and the IB1400 pack got pretty warm. The VR3 just barely warmed up the pack.
Do any of you who run the Ammo 3900 and a similar pack notice your packs run warm?

I couldn't get a 19t pinion and hadto settle for a 17 at the LHS, but it was quite quick even with that. They had a 20t that I was tempted to try, but I've not heard of anyone running one. I'll test tomorrow with the ESC setting changes to see if the cogging is better. Still too early to tell with this motor yet. It is a bit shorter in length than the stock motor, so that concerned me a bit. Makes me wonder if I could get away with more gear, of if I have to live with the 17 or less to avoid heating it up. No CastleLink either. That was out of stock, so I'm running whatever firmware came with the new ESC. Update to follow additional testing.

Align 4050 in Vendetta ST Update:

Finally got the Castle Link issues sorted out and got my firmware updated to 1.17.
- Cogging issues resolved
- Motor seems to run cooler.
- Good power, but I have no other motor comparisons aside from the VR3 so far.
- Decent runtimes with an IB1400 pack

I'm running a 45-17 gearing at the moment. LHS only had 17 and then a 21. Before the 1.17 firmware the motor ran very hot. Running cooler after the update was a pleasant surprise. This was during a PM test, so hopefully daytime testing confirms my initial observations and temps remain reasonable. I'm not sure how it might handle bigger gearing yet.

Power seems smooth and controllable.

The only mod required was to cut down the shaft. Just a quick buzz with the dremel. Tape over the motor openings before cutting of course.

For $37, it seems to have turned out ok after sorting out some initial issues not specific to the motor itself. I still have the Ammo 3900 on backorder, so I might give that a shot when it eventually shows up.

this is just my take on things.. not the word of god.. just what i have experienced ,,so take it with a grain of salt.. and with the introduction of the new ST im sure many ppl will want to find a good BL motor to put in there..

testing was at socal raceway a dirt track offroad supercross style track for 10th scale electrics

the buggy is sitting on half8th buggy wheels with proline crime fighter tires
the truggy is sitting on half8th ST wheels with the tires that come stock with it.. kyosho,,3racing

MAMBA 8000kv,, first brushless i tried in the detta
pro- vry fast.. would have been great if it were a 400 can
cons- extreme heat from usage
gearing-12/49

WRAITH 7K,, second brushless once the 8000kv died
pro- just as fast as the 8000kv
cons - another extremely hot motor
gearing -12/49 made it hot but 13/49 made it smokin hot

GH4700,, third motor.. perfect fit,, loved the heat sink
pro,- fast motor not as fast as 8000kv but still fast,, cooled down really fast for the buggy
con- hot.. heat issues,, did not like the half8th ST tires on the vendetta ST
gearing- 19/45 good for buggy bad for truggy even 16/45 was bad extreme heat and not fast at all

AON4900,, fourth motor after gh4700 died,, i thought this was the ticket
pro- fast but not what i thought,, i expected great things from this motor.. it was ok.. prfferred the gh4700 over this one.
con- i idnt expect it to get as hot as it did.. and the claims of it being a torque monster , it just didnt like the gearing
gearing-19/45

GH3600,, tried this motor on the on the buggy and it was decent i was shocked ,,,
pro - decent speed for the buggy and more than decent for the truggy
gearing - 19/41 for both the buggy and truggy

AMMO 28-35-3900,,,, best thing sinced sliced bread.. this is the mamba 8000kv for the truggy,,
pro- really fast.. impressed with its speed ,, i use this motor to race with
con- gets a lil warmer than i want.. but not anywhere near the heat of the others up top,, ball diffs are needed

PERMAX 400/4D,,,, this would be the C4 for the buggy and truggy,, this thing continues to impress me
pro-can be geared for whatever track.. stays cooler than any motor i have used ,, this is extremely awesom
con- price,, and i cant get it to heat up,, have to upgrade to ball diffs
gearing -buggy 16/41,,19/45,,1941. truggy 16/41,,19/45(which im scared to try.. dont know what i will break)

EDIT CHANGE AS OF NOW.. 05-07-08,,,,,
MY NEW REFERENCE SYSTEM

NEU 1105/1.5y
19/45 gearing
evo2 1600mah flight power lipo
,,, i cant even describe the feeling.. the power,, the speed..
10th scale street tires with suspension set up for dirt track,,, wheelies on demand.. rlling wheelies.. i have no idea what the top speed is.. the car cant keep up with the tire spin..

8 minutes and 30 seconds of continuous run time... the pack was not hot.. maybe in the very low 100,,,, warm enough to put on my cheeks and not burn... the pack never swelled..
