The spur gear may be more tight, if you loosen the spur gear, the truck will do less weelies. Maybe it is, maybe not...

My LST is a wheelie machine with mine at 1 full turn out. I actually go beyond that on track sometimes as a tuning option.

OK, this weekend the weather was freakishly beautiful here in Germany, and we had to go back to the g-friends' parents' village for my g-friend's birthday party.. She's been kind of irritated lately cuz of how much stuff I bring when I take both trucks, so this weekend I decided to only take the LST2. All together I ran three tanks. On the first tank temps got up to 260 and I wasn't seeing much smoke.. Richened it though and temps came down to 210 ish, give or take 15... Anyway, first tank was on a boring flat field, then this morning we were back at the same soccer field where I made the Sav vid last weekend.. Yes, that little jump is about the best I know of within an hour of home - no joke...

Anyway, made another short vid, but it's considerably worse even than the last. Filming was my g-friend's 11-year old brother, and well, yeah, it's just the same jump over and over again.., and his hands are not the stillest... Also, my Window's Movie Maker has been being a royal PIA recently, so I just put it all together and saved as is..

It flew pretty well, but jeeze it lands hard.. I really scraped up the front skid, cuz for the first 25 jumps or so the shocks were all the way up. I later screwed the front shocks down to a small gap, thinking this would stiffen them a bit for those jumps where you have to brake to flatten out, but which also brings the front slamming down pretty hard.. The front skid is so scraped I might not be able to screw or unscrew the screws.. The plastic bumper flat part is also well scraped... Minor observation - the metal quality of the LST2 chassis plates is c_rap... Heavy duty will be necessarily before long - with more days like this..

Damage report thus far is that one of the wing mount posts is cracked.. Still works, but it has a crack in it that could go on the next roll-over.. Besides that the truck has held up well..

It wasn't wheelying much today, but I'm guessing that the slipper is set too loose for that, but given that I was mostly interested in jumping today, I left it that way..

And no, the LST2 is still too young, so I didn't try any backflips... (but I thought about it, often..... Perhaps an interesting point here as far as the comparison goes - with a Sav I just feel more confident saying screw it, balls to the wall go for it... Not so with this €900 LST2.. For people who want to bash hard, this is an undeniable advantage of the Sav - for me anyway it just inspires confidence in trying more and harder and crazier stuff.. The LST2 I kind of think is not meant to be bashed hard - but to be driven - and well... I take more baby practice jumps for ex with the LST2 than with the Sav.., and in general am much more cautious.. That's a big reason I love Savs so much - just slam the gas and launch it.. The LST2 handles better....

To be totally fair here I should also point out that this has a lot to do with part availability.. There are 10 LST parts on e-bay, compared to 590 for Savages.. An ordinary crash could result in having to order from the States, which could mean a month of down-time.. I've gotten Savage parts from dudes on German forums within two days, for half the normal shop price.. Just being fair to the LST2 by pointing that out...)

Vid's taking a while.. More later...

Wow you scratched the heck out of it!
nice jumps, but that music wasen't my favorite lol.
You should get some wood and build yourself a ramp, set it in the soccer field and you'd be great.
Quit being scared and bust out a backflip! You'll never be able to compair the trucks if you don't subject them with the same punishment! Your going to break something eventually anyway! SO lets see it haha!

PatrickBW, i think its time for a new engine lol. ever since i put the sts in mine yours looks so slow. i didnt realize( even with the stock gearing) how slow the m427 was untill i saw yours now. dont take it the wrong way but i am glad now about the sts because untill i saw your truck run now i didnt realize what a performance boost it was.
on topic though, the vid you just put out is'nt as bad as you made it sound. good vid, some nice jumping there.

Yeah, I think the next big project will be to build a ramp with my girlfriend's dad out in the village.. Even then though, I don't go there that often - just the last two weekends coincidentally.. And my main limitation as far as ramps go is what can fit in my girl-friend's car - which, along with one or two MT's + stuff is about nothing..

Lack of cool places to drive is becoming more and more of a problem...

Speed-wise, right now I'm happy with the speed of the LST2. I'd say it's about dead-equal with the Savage, with the LST2 having a slight edge in lower-end acceleration(the Sav is overgeared...). The LST2 of course handles better, but that doesn't mean it's more fun to drive...

17/49 gearing. One red and one black spring on each corner, with .5" limiters and 30w oil. You still won't handle better than the LST2 with your current setup, but you can close the gap considerably. The three speed and deeper gearing are going to make it a rocket compared to how it is now.

Edit: If I'm bugging you by continually telling you that, then make the changes and I'll shut up

i have given up on making the savage a better handler and use it for the purpose at hand, bash untill it cant bash no more. i take corners with the lst2 that the savage would just roll over and give up. but i like them all and i just cant stop at just one

Fair enough, I mean that is what the Savage was intended to do... but improving the handling of one isn't that big of a task. Who doesn't want a better handling truck, regardless of what it's used for? In this respect, the Savage is a very rewarding truck to tinker with, because the setup is so bad in stock form and you can see huge gains by tweaking it a little.

This is getting O.T. and I don't want to hijack Patricks thread anymore than I already have. I'm just trying to help him make the truck do what he wants it to do. His jumping and flat ground handling would be greatly improved by doing the suspension mods that I posted. The deeper gearing will improve acceleration, responsiveness, and control... both on the ground and in the air. These are all things he has mentioned wanting to improve.

No man it's all good - I'm always keen to hear good advice from people who knows what's up...

Tell you what though, after jumping with it the last time I'm pretty happy with the Sav right now(especially with the new Desert Rat look...) Main problem now to solve is the wobbly rear turnbuckles...

It's true it doesn't handle as well as the LST2, but part of that contributes to what for me is higher fun factor believe it or not.. The LST2 is pretty idiot-proof - i.e. easy to wheel around.. Wheeling a Sav around pretty hard WITHOUT flipping takes some doing, which means concentration, which for me means fun..

Eventch Chronic I'll try your shock mods - got some green springs on the way.. I think I might lower it if nothing else then just for looks... VERY happy with my Sav right now...

Well, I'm not usually a fan of gravel-pit/climbing type videos, but yesterday I had the chance to drive in such a place. Was a blast actually - though totally filthy... My cars are both still completely dirty after two cleanings...

Anyway, met a dude there from a German forum with a Novarossi 8-port .28 and lots of other mods. Unfortunately my girlfriend was being kinda' ****_y(again... She's steadily losing patience with my hobby... Understandable I guess - I mean, she had to spend the whole afternoon in a gravel pit after all....), so we didn't get the best footage. The Nova Sav was gettinng some SICK air and flips later. Unfortunately he smashed his colling head in and bent up his 8mm engine plate... He left after that kinda' pissed.. Can understand though - it's a highly modified and impressive truck...

My trucks(X SS and LGT) held up fine, though I did experience the half-tank lean problem for the first time ever with the Sav.. Was pretty hot - kinda' just hope it goes away..

The LGT has a new pipe and actually performs better than before, despite how ridiculously slow it looks in the vid. It IS slow, but I like it. Solid, simple, and tough and keeps on going..

The LST2 stayed in the car. I didn't want to go home with ALL my trucks broken...

Whenever I break the Sav out now I always feel a kick at how much fun it is - and fast(for me anyway... I think I just have the right gearing or something...) I only lined up for drags with the Nova Sav a few times, and though yes he did spank me, his truck seems almost UNCONTROLLABLY fast, so even with 40 series Mulchers he can't seem to get enough traction... I was just pretty much WOT all over the place. With him I don't know - seems like he can NEVER go WOT and stay in control... In the very first vid clip his truck takes off, and it took by breath away. You have to see that kinda' speed in person.. Anyway, my point was, the LST2 is kind of in limbo now. I'm really broke at the moment(freelance employment + German tax = empty bank account...), and have to keep telling myself not to sell it.. We'll see...

Anyway, here's the vid:

Thats an awesome bash spot!
I wanted to see some LST2 action though
Maybe you should let your GF drive your trucks and then she wouldn;t get as bored. My girl at first was like oh those are kinda cool, and THEN i let her drive mine and she loved it, she's a bit of a crazy driver but it's funny!

My Tower order just got in..... He he he....

Question now is, which truck gets which stuff??? Big Joes for the LST2, and Axial Beadlocks on Axial tires for the Sav??? Convert the LST2 to 17mm?? Proline Desert Rat(the big one) for the LST2, or the Lightning GT??

Decisions, decisions....

One cool little thing I got is the plastic cone-shaped engine-stopper thingy.. Burned the XXXX out of my finger the other day... Now I just need to fashion a little key-chain or so for the temp gun, motor stopper, flat-head tuning screw-driver, and maybe some small pliers..

Ahhh, that reminds me - no more searching for the Leatherman to get those dam body-clips out... Gotta coupla' sets of Dubro retainers too.... 'Nice....

AND - finally a fuel bottle where the cap won't always come off and go lost....

Umm i say give the LST2 new wheels and tires, dish wheels look like crap IMO.
Keep the Dodge body on the LST2, i like it better then the desert rat.
Everything left over can go to the Savage.

Well, for anybody else that may be interested(I know you aren't JUD....), but the Proline Desert Rat didn't look so good on my LGT, and it looks like it might just barely fit on the LST2 - which surprises me, cuz it's actually a pretty small bod. I think with the body holes drilled all the posts all the way up, the New Era roll-bar will be pressing against the roof. Neveretheless, I think it might look good, without the wing, but with the little plastic wing flap it comes with..

Now to decide - black like usual or something more creative.. Might be leaning more towards the latter - but what.. Might sound weird, but I've seen a few bods around recently with light, sky blue that looked pretty good....

Hmmmm..........

ps And to racers or whomever doesn't have the roll-bar, I think this bod should look pretty damn good on an LST2.. It IS tight on the gear-cover and pipe - but not TOO tight - I think... Hard to tell without the body holes cut.... Should also point out that it does NOT cover the pipe...

and you wonder why your broke , like i should talk the wife said i cant order anything till july when the cc bill goes down. anyway the desert rat body looks good just dont do what i did, cut a opening for the body or the pipe will melt it. the melting plastic smells worse than nitro. the video looks good i just wish i had someone to take a video of mine or it looks like i may need to make a trypod for it.

To be honest this was a rebellion/frustration order(shouldn't have done it..) right after I paid an even huger bill to the German tax office..... But damn, I needed some kind of release valve(i.e fun...) So I've been poor as hell the last month - but at least now I get a reward...

I think I like both sets of tires(LOVE the Joes man - huge, and they just look and feel like good quality, tough tires...) The Beadlocks though I'm not so sure about.. I've heard mixed reviews.. Think they may be more for just looks. Especially with the Joes I need to keep the weight down - so maybe some black dish rims would be ideal there.... Don't know on that one - could sell the BL's for a profit probably....

i would just sell the set you dont use, i have so many tires that they never wear out and i should sell some but then i would have less tires if one breaks. see thats my problem i just cant get myself to sell anything (or throw anything out), its like a crime .
