the paint was darker before i added the metalic color but i still like how it came out. i think you can get metalic midnight blue as one color.

They look good...

From what I can see - I HATE this new photo set-up they have.. Seems to only work half the time for me.. The rest of the time it just says "loading"...

The blue I have in mind though is more of a soft, but rich baby-blue - backed in white.. Don't know if it'd work with the all black wheels though.. But on the LST2 with the white dish rims maybe..

xtm aka hobby people make different colors in 17mm including white and there cheap thats why i like them. the baby blue would make the white rims stand out and would make it look nice. maybe a baby blue stripe on the rims like a bullsey but just one so when the truck is running it looks like circles on the tires.

Would never find those here... How about just solid baby-blue rims and a matching bod(with somehow somewhere some black accents..)???.....

I kinda' think that would be one of those combos that SOUNDS a lot more, um, limpwristed... than it would actually look...

Sorry man, i wasen't bashing the desert rat body, i was just saying your dodge body looks cooler, plus you already have the desert rat on your savage. It's just my opinion and their your trucks so do what you think looks the best, either way it'll look good.

Na, it's all cool man. I know you don't like the race bodies - and trust me, I didn't either for a long time - on principle!!... But after a while all the pickups start to look the same(more or less), and some of the racing bods can look pretty aggressive.. That said, there are a couple of pickups I really like the look of - the Savage GT-2 for one. Unfortunately HPI bodies are paper thing. I also really like the look of the black Chevy body I have on the Sav now. Shame it got SSSOOOO screwed up in the gravel-pit(all cuz I was too lazy to turn around the rear body-post... Duh.....)

Anyway, the only Dodge body I have is the Charger Muscle bod for the Savage.. I guess you mean the Ford black bod on the LST2??.. That was originally gonna be for the Sav..,but I got bored over the winter... IF the Desert Rat goes on the LST2, I'll have to sacrifice the wing, but that's OK I'm starting to think about cutting weight, and the mount's cracked anyway...

That Dodge body you're getting for the LST2 is HUGE in comparision to that little Savage bod I have on mine.. Interested to see how it turns out...

Just wrote this is the Losi forum, but thought I'd include it here..

For anybody who thinks it's annoying that I keep going back and forth between the two trucks, all I can say is, both are kicking some very serious A and have been tons of fun......

Which truck is better?? Well yeah, that is a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY tough call... Right now I'm high on both.... Can't help it..

The LST REALLY impressed me today. Was a guy there with a Genesis, and man that thing does rip it up with the torque.. Give gas, grass flies.. We didn't get a chance to race, but after being all impressed by his truck, once I was running my LST2 I think I was blushing(lots of people there at this park..) at how fast it was...

Took my LST2 out today for tanks 15-17....

Only difference was that after last time out I put a Savage air filter on it.. I swear, it was easier to start, easier to tune, temps were better(220-260), and most of all, it was FASTER... Like a freakin' rocket....

Also took some NASTY crashes - and held up very well.. As a matter of fact, I totally lost my RPM head-guard. NO idea where it went.. I did fly pretty hard into some dense bushes a few times.., but looked and didn't find it. Are the RPM headguards known for going MIA??

The LST2 really impressed me today - and that coming from a Savage fanatic/LST2 skeptic.. I don't want to sell it now..

On a side note, I also took out my Kyosho FW-05T onroader. This car I have paid like zero attention to, ran it lean for a long time getting up to 390ish SEVERAL times, not realizing it til I got a temp gun.. The thing just starts right up and flies - AND takes some big hits...

And on another side-note, here is my heinous Proline Desert Rat I painted last night.. VERY, VERY bright blue.. Can't not see this thing coming.. The stickers are there for a reason - to cover runs... Shoulda' done all black like all my others....:

Was an older Genesis LE I think - the purple-ish body.. He actually had engine problems, and wasn't hitting 3rd gear.. Down low though the thing obviously ripped. From a standstill when he gave gas in the grass grass just went flying.. Looked really cool..

the best part of the cen series of those trucks is i have the rear braking setup so when i let off the gas the rear brakes engage and i do a power slide then hit the gas and the front tires bite hard and whip the truck around hard but ended my day when the axle stub broke today but i got a dozzen more and got them cheap(the stronger kind). i even hit a tree at wot andi just bounced off i was sure that i ripped the a arms off but it just kept going, man i love this thing its a tank. and there are the ofna 17mm axles on there they work great.

Well......, I think I've reached a conclusion.

The LST2 is simply the better truck. Ran a few more tanks through it today, and it was HAULING balls.... Almost positive it's faster than the Savage, even if the 3-speed were ideally tweaked. PART of this may be the LST2's hugeness in comparison, but I don't think so.. On the straight-away at the track where I was(paved..), the LST2 took noticeably longer to hit top speed, and it was accelerating HARD the whole way.. By the end, when this thing had a full head of steam, it was a sight to see.. It's also more impressive to just see the LST2 shift once, than the Savage twice... The LST2 also took some big hits today... There was a guy there with an LRP Spec 2 Savage, and at first I was watching him run, and it looked impressive.. But then we ran together, and man, the Sav looked like a toy.. Granted he had much smaller tires, and I was launching off a hill he could barely get up - and yes, this is also embarassing to admit - he kept flipping over and having to run over and right it - despite 40 series tires and lowered suspension...

All of which puts me in a weird position. I'm STILL a Savage first guy... First love and all that... My first RC was a Savage, and as long as I'm into RC I'll always have a Savage - but the LST2 basically blows it away in every category, EXCEPT maybe in hard-core bashing and crashing.. I mean, if I were gonna be hitting a ramp and getting 10+ feet air, the Sav would be the truck to take... BUT, if you have a clue about driving - and air control while jumping, the Savage's %10 advantage in toughness doesn't count for much... And when that slight toughness advantage is removed from the equation, a Savage is basically a joke in comparison.

Savages are for newbs who want insurance and to know that their truck will stay in one piece when they wreck (which BTW is totally legitimate), and it also has SSSOOO many tuning options, so that offers a certain appeal..

But the LST2 just does everything better. Faster, handling, size, flying, etc..

So, although I'm liking this LST2 more and more..., I'll still always have a soft-spot for the Sav and always have one - even if at some point I have to sell the better LST2.... I go back to the muscle-car analogy. The Savage is like a muscle car. Impractical, and some cheap Japanese car could smoke it, but it's just got a certain kind of character.. The intangibles, you might say..

But for somebody wanting a top quality, FAST, and BIG, and GREAT-HANDLING, and so far pretty tough(tougher than I expected I now have to admit..) monster truck, well, as much as I hate to admit it, I'd recommend the LST2.....

Great review. I sold my Savage SS 4.6 to buy my LST2. I always liked savages and my first truck was a Savage 25, great truck, but the LST2 is simply better.

Painful to admit, but true...

But like I said, even if I get into large-scale on-road(which after today I just might...), whatever my RC constellation, there will always be a Savage in it...

Yeah, the LST2 is an impressive package.

Made a Spec 2 powered Savage look like a toy huh? hmmm, okay...

Given where we were running, yes..

I felt kind of bad actually, cuz the guy with the Sav obviously has more experience than I - his Sav is nicely set-up - lowered with 40 Series race tires, etc.., but we were running through fairly highish grass, then hitting this little hill. I was getting clear air, but he could just manage to sort of roll over the hill - it looked dumb... I was there last week with my Sav though and was getting air too.. Maybe he just wasn't getting on it..

I don't know - maybe I'm just trigger-happy... I like WOT...(I hit 333 today on the last tank, and later, when putting ARO in, saw black cakey looking stuff on my piston - same with the Axial.. Either gotta' richen my engines, or learn to go easy...)

Still, later we got onto the pavement, and my LST2 just looked in an absolutely different league.. I wanted to dragrace with him - not to show him up - which I defo would have(BUT, this is largely attributeable to the LST2's huge wheels...), but he was having some pretty bad lean issues, so it didn't work out.. Basically, on any surface, OR jumping, I would have destroyed him... I also chased down this 1/5 gasser onroader... Over 50 yards I could take him.... Those things get fast after like 30 yards, but the LST2 has the 2-speed and so gets to top speed more quickly....

A lot of that has to do with the driver though. If I could somehow race myself with my Savage X SS it would be a lot closer... My X SS moves pretty good...

Anyway, as far as the comparision goes, there was my LST2 and this Savage today - that's one thing. But there's also MY Savage X SS, and my LST2... The reality of the comparison is MUCH closer than what I saw today with this other Sav... I don't think he was getting on it that much.. I sure as h.ell was......

No - FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION IT......

We were both standing on top of this little hill. And I had this pretty good launch, so that I ended up flying further than intended and plowing front-first into these dense bushes across the path..

I said "look, this is the first time I've EVER needed this...".. And I put it in reverse and backed right out....

This happened twice...

I actually like reverse in some situations, it saves some walking.. but it would accelerate even quicker with the FOC installed....

You should be careful about getting it over 300 to often... I would think 270 at the end of the tank should be your max.

(I have the FOC kit - bought it from Killer - but am waiting until I really HAVE to take stuff apart to install it... Does FOC also get rid of the low gear thing?? I want that even less than reverse...)
