With retracts and flaps you have six channels minimum. I used two channels for the ailerons, so I used 7. I think a Saito .82 would be great. It would give it the same type of high speed that my Irvine .53 provides. I don't know how well it would fit in the cowl though.

Hi!
I have flown several club members Tony's and those have been powered either by Saito .62:s and OS .52 engines. Both these engines will make the Kawasaki Hien fly good. I think a Saito .82 is too much engine . Not power wise but weighting too much.
It's vital that you keep the weight down on all airplanes if you want good performance. That means using small Hs 85 servos on all functions and using a small GP (Red) NiMH 4,8V 850 mAh batteri.

I have a few flights on mine now with a Supertigre 45, it flies nice. But it was ballooning real bad and I had to dial in about 8 clicks of down trim. I was going to add some down thrust, but the cowl is already aligned right and I don't feel like messing with it. Anyone else need that much trim?

Many ARFS need a few clicks of down trim, usually due to the elevator incidence being a bit off. That is not a problem and needs no other work. If the plane varies based on throttle setting, that is a different story. From full throttle to half throttle if the trim is different you may have a thrust problem. In my case I believe the plane needed some down trim, but once that was done if tracked well at all throttle settings. My thrust line as delivered was very good. I can't say I'd worry about it even if it did since I typically fly it flat out unless I'm in formation with one of my friends. In that case, I usually have to back off a bit since there is not many small warbirds that can keep pace with the Ki-61 and the Irvine .53. Here it is with my OS.61 powered VQ Hurricane.

It don't need no down trim with a YS 1.10 up front!

Here is video from our last race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d9-Zi5u2O4

Scroll back to post #63. The photos show mine with a Saito 82. I finally ran in the engine last weekend, so it won't be long before it's finally flown.

How many channels is this please and I only have spare a Saito 82a, would that be ok? Overkill?

The model needs 6 standard servos ( 2 x Ail, Rudd, Elev, Flaps, Thro) and 1 retract servo (Gear) so you'll need a minimum of 6 channels if you use a Y cable on the ailerons.

It would be better if you have a 7 channel radio that supports dual aileron servos either buy built-in programming or mixes with trims included.

A Saito .82 would be an excellent match. It's virtually the same weight as the suggested .50 sized 4-strokes and will have plentiful power without being over the top.

saw a post a page or two back that kyosho was going to pull this bird...any news on that front?

I know you can snag one from kyosho (looked on the website yesterday) but does anyone know where to pick it up for less? Ultimate hobbies no longer seems to stock this.

How does the model react when the flaps are deployed? Is any elevator compensation needed to stop the model ballooning?

Stallwart,

Thanks for the link, found it at rocousa and got one ordered.

Now, I spose I'll be needing a motor. Anyone got suggestions? If I want to be price conscious, I figure an os 55ax.

I sure wish I didn't have to see much sticking through the cowl though, would an four stroke be a better option?

At full flaps it does ballon upward on you. I have mine with some downward elevator mixing at around 10%

The .55AX would be a great choice performance wise, except for the large boxy muffler detracting from the appearance.

I'm going with an OS FSa .56 4-stroke which should also be a great match. It's about $100 more than the AX. I have both motors and it was a tough choice because they are both superb engines.
