Well if you can turn the 22x8 at anything more than 7200, you've got the beefier engine. Also. That throttle response on Baldeagles video is just incredible! The DA's is quite good, but nothing compared to that! It also doesn't sound dumb in the mid range (ridiculous gurgle). My next airplane may get an MVVS.

If you think the 45 was good in the vidio, you ought to see and hear the MVVS 58 pro, it pulls a 22x10 three blade at 7650rpm on only its second gallon of fuel, throttle responce is just as good, and the bonus is the fixing holes are the same, its now in the QQ 85" Yak and its silly power, but the main point of swapping was that I can fly around doing all the things I could do with the 45, but at half throttle so the noise level is way down, touque rolls never seen the like of them its just great fun.

Q: Can you have too much power.
A: Only if it rips the firewall off.
LOL

Forgive me for saying this in this thread, but I think that the EF 88" Yak and its more squares would nicely handle the 58. I want to try one, but QQ has too many planes that I need before I can get something else. I also want someting for the 116 Evolution. Thinking a Comp ARF. Sorry lets get on topic.
5 more flights on mine tonight and some messing with needles. I cant get it any better than it is now. Has decent pull out, very broad power curve. Before I was hovering at full throttle, now i am hovering between half and 3/4. Blipping of course. I am finnaly getting this thing to torque roll. Rolls well by the way.

Yeah, i hear that 58 is a beast. I do need all the power I can get at my altitude. Losing 15-20% of prop efficiency as well as power really drops the power to weight.

Octane,

You may want to try a 22x8 and fly around with it. it will have much more static thrust for low 3d manuevers. This is what I am flying on my Yak with great results. Great pull out even at this altitude.

I'd try a 3W or Brillelli before going with the Evolution. I had one of the 58's and I wasn't happy with it at all. Just my $0.02.

I had a 22x8 on mine and didnt like the lack of flying speed or slow up lines. 22x10 is perfect for me.
Anybody can get a bad engine, DA, 3W, Brillelli, Evolution/MVVS. A friend of mine got a bad DA. Didnt mean he will never use them again.

octanehuffer, when you mounted your EVO 45 what length of standoffs did you have to use? The mounting points for the MVVS/EVO and the DA engines are quite different.
The 1.25" standoffs called for with the DA50 would be to long on the MVVS/EVO engine, It would appear to me that you could almost mount the EVO engine directly to the firewall from the supplied blue coloured mounting flang on the engine.

thx Dave

Dave

Picture shows how I did this on my 85" the 86" should not be that different.

If the Evolution had a better mount dimention you could easily mount it directly to the firewall, however the top(bottom inverted)mount hole is on the bottom of the firewall plate. I cut out the DA carb hole and enlarged it a little to clear the carb in the bottom of the opening. This is to clear the angled down carb. You will have to make a mount to relocate the lower mounts. Standoffs are approx 1/2" for top and 1/4" for the bottom mount.

You can turn the carb mounting plate around on the MVVS so that the carb is pointing up if this would help the installation, when taking out the carb plate be carefull as it has two rubber O rings on it, pull it straight off don't twist it or you may break the O rings. Also note how the various tubes attach, it is possible to get this wrong when re-attaching, don't ask how I know.

Thanks guys,
I,m not going to take any chances by removing and turning around my carb plate. Therefore I,m going to have a 1/4" aluminum plate made by a flying buddy to relocate the lower mount as noted in octanehuffers pic. Thanks a bunch.

Hey Plasticman,

Great job, hope you dont mind i have printed your pics and am using them on my build. How did you manage to get the cap head bolt through the manifold plate at the header where the header comes close to the plate. I know DA reccomend running in in the air, did you do the first few flys without the cowl.

Put the bolt in first and then offer the manifold up to the head. Its easier with a stud and nut though.

I would like to insert gladly a Da50 with Resorohr. Is enough place for a resonance pipe (tuned pipe from Krumscheid) in the 86 inch yak. Such a pipe is long with elbow union approx. 40 inch.
Thank you for answer.
