hi everyone, i'm new here and also very very new to nitro. i've been into rc's for over twenty years, but i recently purchased an hpi mt2 nitro rtr with a t-15. my problem is this, it would not start, so i purchased a new glowplug and ignitor, and a gallon of o'donnel rtr fuel (after the purchase i found this forum and now know that the rtr fuel may have too much oil, but i can't justify wasting a $23.00 gallon of fuel. race fuel next time.) i reset the carb to factory settings but was unable to locate anything on the "idle" setting. so after a few attempts it started but as soon as i unplug the g.p. ignitor the engine dies. now after a few more adjustments it will run for a few minutes, but if i give it a little throttle,...it dies. any help would be greatly appreciated as i am building a new track and would like to show the "pups" that the "old dog" still has it. so help me guys. thanks in advance for any helpfull suggestions, just remember that i'm new to nitro

Hey muddy congrats. First I suggest moving over to this other forum http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1505231/anchors_7627507/mpage_683/key_/anchor/tm.htm#7627507
There is a lot more activity in it.
Do you know how much fuel has been through that engine? It could be losing compression.
I would set the idle on the high side till you get it running right. Raise it up to just before it engages the clutch. Once you have it where it will run without the igniter on it then you can start leaning the high speed needle out a little,. If the engine stalls out as soon as you give it a little throttle then lean out the low speed needle a little.
As far as the fuel goes, everyone has a different opinion. While most people rave about Odonnell's, I found it difficult to work with. It left a sticky residue on everything and I was constantly running hot. Im using trinity monster blend right now and so far so good. It seems to be almost identical to HPI's fuel. I've heard Byrans is very good as well, but ultimately your choices will be limited to whats available near you.
Try those small adjustments and let us know how you make out.

thanks man it is runnin and it is a blast. the local hobby shop guy told me that the odonnels is the best, and i have no idea so i didn't argue. he told me that if i'm not racing proffesionally, i should use the rtr. it sure is sticky. the mt2 had less than a gallon ran through it before i bought it. the original owner was also a novice with nitro. but for $50.00 for the truck in great shape, radio gear, a gear storage box, charger for the rotostart w/ battery and a dead glow plug ignitor w/o charger, i think i got a pretty good deal. and now it runs great.

Does any body out there know where I can find hop up parts or aluminum parts for my MT 2? I have added almost all of the alum. upgrades for my savage and now I want to upgrade my MT 2 but I am having problems finding them. So far all I have done is add the O.S. 18 tz turbo. which works great.

www.asiatees.com

All aluminum parts at a decent price.
