Hey there,
Remember if you put a larger and more powerful motor in you will eventually need to upgrade other components as well. I think the .18SS is the ideal upgrade motor for the MT 2.

What do you guys think of a 17T CB with a 52T spur gear with the T-15? Is that too high a ratio? Would 17/49 work better?

the best motor you can put in a mt2 is OS 18 cv-r or OS 18tz i have the cv-r and it goes lkike a bomb but you will need to upgrade you spur gear and gear ratio and you will also have to upgrade your diffs.

Right now Im running an LRP Z.18s with 15T CB and 52T spur and the truck flies. I'm looking into a different pipe to see if I can squeeze a little more power out of the engine.

Does any body out there know where I can find hop up parts or aluminum parts for my MT 2? I have added almost all of the alum. upgrades for my savage and now I want to upgrade my MT 2 but I am having problems finding them. So far all I have done is add the O.S. 18 tz turbo. which works great.

If you do a search on ebay or google you should find a ton of aluminum parts for the mt2.
Is there anything in particular you are looking for?

I have been having a heck of a time with my front shocks. First I kept unseating the plastic cap on the stock shock, so I bought HR front shocks. Yesterday a bent the shaft of the new shock. What shocks do you all recommend for the g3.0?

I have the aluminum ones on one truck and the stock plastics on the other. So far I havent had any problems. Are you hitting things thats causing the plastic to unseat?
I know a lot of people use these http://stores.ebay.com/TEAM-BLUE-STAR-HIGH-PERFORMANCE and they seem to work and hold up well.

All you should really need is the front and rear setups, meaning the shock towers, a-arms etc. The center of the car and MT2 are pretty much the same.

This is the O.S. engine you will need http://www.osengines.com/engines/osmg2104.html
You'll need an engine mount as well unless your truck came with one. You can find them on ebay, groovie-stuff always has them listed. I would suggest upgrading the pipe to a tuned pipe such as the Rdlogics or CVEC. Some pipes will come with the manifold others you can use the stock one.
You should be fine with the stock spur gear but if you want a little more speed you can go with 15/49 setup. The OS engine should have no problem handling it.
Hope this helps.

Keithjv,

Thanks, that does help. I had contacted OS and they recommended the same engine but said i would need a different clutch because the G3.0 I have now is a pilot shaft? and the OS has the standard shaft. I don't know enough to begint to know what kind of clutch I should buy for it. Do you have any idea?

Thanks, Bill

The OS uses a pilot shaft also. Look at the threads at the end of the crankshaft. You can take the pilot shaft off your G3.0 and use that or here is a link for the same one just to give you an idea what it is. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM720&P=M
How much fuel do you have through that G3.0 engine?

It has had about 2 gallons through it. It had a bad back gasket that I have been told it was sucking air and it looks like a hair line crack in the piston. It has always had poor bottom end but the top end was just ok most of the time. I have a car with the T3.0 hpi engine and it screams, but I ahve not had much luck out of this G3.0. Everyone tells me the OS .18 engine is much better and faster.

I could most likely have some warranty claims on the G3.0 but I have it all torn apart now and would rather have the better engine for now and perhaps send the G3.0 back at a later date.

I would be very interested in your thoughts and anyone elses.

Thanks, Bill

Keithjv,

Do you think the roto start backplate from the G3.0 will fit the OS you recommended?

Hmm, Im not sure about the roto plate. It might line up. Your best bet would be to contact O.S. and ask them about that one. I actually prefer the pull start. You can feel if the engine is flooding and its one less thing to have to carry.
As for the engine, which model # do you have? It might be worth contacting HPI to see if there was a manufacturing defect. The worst they can say is no. You might be able to get a new engine out of them for little or no cost.
Do you have any pictures of your collection?
I just looked up the T3.0 and the G3.0 and I cant find a difference in them. All the specs are the same. Any idea whats different?

The T3.0 has a different shaft than the G3.0 is the difference, but boy it sure makes my RTR3+ Evo scream. I have a Savage X 4.6 that runs great and will pop whellies on demand.

Ahh ok, now I see the difference. I didnt notice that. Thanks.
I have a Savage X as well with an LRP Z.28 and it FLIES. If I give it full throttle from a stand still it will completely flip over. I have a 19T CB I have to install to see if that helps.

I used to have that problem. I tried the hpi wheelie bar and another aftermarket whellie bar and it still would flip over until I found this one
Wheelie bars

It will ride it all the way across the parking lot without fliping over, made to fit, and seems really strong.
