Perhaps back to square one. Clearly, different messages from different people.

This is my understanding:

A California Tamiya vendor in contact with a Tamiya USA rep; emailed Sunday; writing: If you bought the Panther in the USA from a Tamiya USA source; Tamiya USA would stand behind the kit and honor a Panther warranty, whatever that is?

I bought my Panther from Karen at the tank museum and after letting them know that, I did not hear back from Tamiya USA. Silence and games is their solution.

The Tamiya USA operation is downsized, a lot, and may be just a warehouse, fulfillment and distribution operation now. As your communications from Tamiya stated, it would be true that most Japanese Corporations would require the USA operation to first gain Japanese corporate management and legal approval before any action is taken that would impact a corporate budget.

Continue to apply polite, public pressure on appropriate open forums. So far the posts on various Panther threads probably have worked as a consumer protection service for modelers.

Plus the posts gives one an understanding of the cost involved if you decide to dive in and build a Tamiya Panther kit to RUN like their previous WWII tanks.

All this stuff will take awhile before you see any truthful help (if any) for the first wave of Tamiya Panther builds.

Several thousand modelers have now read this thread, that is important, and will eventually gain boardroom attention at Tamiya.

In a few categories, I have been a great Tamiya customer for years, but their marketing tactics and customer service seems to be at a new all time low.

And half the attacks directed at this thread are no doubt from Tamiya's own paid viral marketers.

John

Actually with the japanese being the management the BEST thing to do is keep applying pressure. Right now is still working through the chain of their management. If it gets enough voice they will cave, bow, kowtow and do the right thing. Its alot about buisness and honor right now.

I'm a little tired of this back and forth with Tamiya and no real progress on resolving this issue with the tracks. I am not going to let this go until Tamiya steps up to the plate and resolves this issue.

I want to finish this friggin tank and move on to the next one. Who is selling Impact tracks now? Does anyone know?

Too bad none of teh ppl at tamiya USA runs their own tank products, as if anyone of them builds teh panther should see the problems that you guys are facing withthe tank and thus no need for sending the lower hull to them whatsoever. These problems withthe panther has stopped me from getting one and until this problem resolves I will still with my pershing for now.

Thanks for the info. Let me know if the washers work on your tank. They didn't work on mine. If the washers work on yours maybe I'll just hound Tamiya for another set of sprocket wheels.

I have all of Daryl's upgrades and they all work and fit perfectly. Daryl is a great guy and great to deal with. I also insrtalled the Tamiya etched parts. There's another round screen that is for the compartment heater. Does anyone know where this one goes?

I also used Impact's side skirt parts drawing, printed it, blew it up with my copy machine to 155% and used this as a template to cut out pieces of aluminum that I installed on my tank. I used really small 90 size screws and drilled holes that size to fasten them to the skirt holders on the side of the tank. They looked good so they are being painted. I'll post pics of my tank once they're done and installed. This is a cheap and easy way to make side skirts that look just as good as the $50.00 variety. If anybody wants to try this, send me a pm and I can email you the Impact PDF to enlarge and use as a template.

Here's the pics of my homemade side skirts. I used a Tamiya smoke color paint for the exhaust stacks and the muzzle brake which turned out to be a little shinier than expected. Anyone find a nice smoke color that is flat?

Very very nice Panther proulxlaw!

I'll let you know how it turns out. Going to start priming tomorrow if I don't get called into work.

The screen is for the heater unit for the crew compartment, It's Part #E11 and E6 (step 25 and 27).

I've got the Impact side skirts to but there is now way to fasten it to Schurzen support without modifying it in someway (I don't know how I'll do that). I want to use the skirts and paint my Panther like this:

Here is another view of the of Heater unit with the addons:
He used Aber's addons.

I was wondering to those that battle with their Panthers, is the Panther considered a Heavy tank?

I couldn't prime my Panther today....weather was bad (rained, but not as bad as the rest of you guys up north ). and I had to work .

An update on the tracks.....last night I followed Tamiya's guide (removed 4 track links per side, and it's nice and lose) and put in the DMD/Multi-function Unit/battery/receiver, all I can say is weird....the left side tracks works perfectly but the right side skipped. So I put one washer on the right side and tested again...same thing, skips. So I went ahead and using my dremel I filed away the right Drive Sprocket A, filed the inside portion of the sprocket, between the teeth (a little) and a little on the outside of the sprocket....took about 15 minutes. I put it back together (used the washer) and now it runs fine without skips. I don't know maybe Tamiya is using different molds for their sprockets but I'm happy (don't need to get impact tracks). I'll try to get some pics tomorrow before I go to work at night.

Hope this helps everybody.
P.S. I'll start priming on Sunday (day off)

Thanks for the compliments.

You should have instructions from Impact for the side skirts. What the instructions say is to cut the slot with a hobby knife. I don't have the Impact skirts but I read the instructions. i can send them to you in a PDF if you need them. The method that I used is just drilling very small holes (I forget the size) for 90 size screws from the LHS. This LHS sells mostly trains and really smal stuff. I used airplane canopy glue on the threads of the screws to act as lock-tite. Canopy glue is good because it will hold firmly but has a stretchy bendable quality that will also allow me to take the skirts off without hassle or breaking anything else. The skirts seem very secure and not likely to break off or anything.

The paint job that you are attempting looks good. Did someone you know do that one?
