Found good Panther kit fix parts from Impact USA and Daryl Turner.

Cool Panther decals at Backyard Armor though.

Wonder, when are the Panther decals ready for mailing?

Why do people keep saying that the Tamiya Tiger I is going to be discontinued? It is their best selling tank.

Well Im not sure why they would discontinue any of the big tank line, but they have, and will .The Tiger1 ff was the first and now the oldest kit ,I guess maybe if the sales drop below a certain point in doesnt pay for them to keep it in production. All Tamiya kits are done in a "limited" production run.If you dont have one yet ,now is the time to get one.If you wait till its discontinued then youll have to pay the "Rare Collectors"price that it will be for sale for.I have 2 already, with a 3rd on its way soon...I really love the kit.

Hi,

Back to topic.

So, have you actually built your Tamiya Panther or are you a kit collector and or viral marketer for Tamiya?

If neither, why not post your Panther build images and explain how you solved the various Panther kit issues?

Thanks

pcomm1,
look back in the pages of this post (and added link)that you are adding to and you will see all my step by step construction photos of my Tamiya Panther, here is a link to the complete construction of the Tamiya Panther and my mostly Tamiya collection.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5780423/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm (page 2 shows the airbrushed camo done)(also I have added the wire screen engine covers, after these pics were taken)

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4986780/anchors_4986780/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#4986780

my collection photos does not include the new additions of a Henlong PIII.,or my Tamiya Panther

the only issue i had with the Panther kit was the Drive sprockets ,and that was solved very easy in 10 minutes time by VERY SLIGHTLY filing down the inside width of the sprockets.VERY easy and works PERFECT.NO Spacers NEEDED

Dude, no offense, but there seems to be little honesty in your statements.

Absolutely, do not believe that you have a running Tamiya Panther rc kit build.

Even Tamiya USA admits to the Panther issues and has a design team reviewing the kit.

The tank will not run across anyones backyard until the problems are corrected.

I traded dozens of emails with DT, Impact and scratch builders this summer looking for ways to save my Tamiya Panther build and make it a runner.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, who has built the kit has had to deal with 3 new rc tank kit problem areas (all the old running issues remain):

1. Main Gun Barrel wobbles in the mantlet and ruins recoil and elevation functions
2. Tamiya Panther drive sprockets are 10 to 15 percent to big for the tracks to run over
3. Glacis plate fit, or actually lack of fit

It took all summer, but the after market has good fix parts now for the Panther issues.

My Panther setup, with the after market parts works great now (as well as my Sherman and Tiger IE), but at a significant
dollar cost.

That is real disappointing for a $600 Tamiya kit.

Visit: http://web.mac.com/ksoc/S.C.A.T./Tech_Corner/Tech_Corner.html

SCAT is the club that stages the tank demos at TamiyaCon.

Why not post photos of your Tamiya Panther build and explain how you skirted or fixed the mantlet, drive sprockets and glacis plate issues.

Again, let's see your build, PoisonPorkChop, but first finish your school homework.

Your link did send me to a fine model with pro paint, but does it function?

Your assembly photos seem pro communications designed; staged and viral marketing driven, rather than tech tip build oriented.

But let me know why I am completely wrong?

Thanks

Hi,

Again, truth to the big boy. Try and stay point.

OK, how did you get your Panther to run? Explain, other than just following the instructions. Like what did you do about the giant hole in the mantlet? Adjusting the teeth does not work. That is a myth. My kit sprocket parts had no width fit issues. The drive sprockets are simply over sized and do not run with the OEM tracks.

And like at Kursk, the Panthers failed to perform at their East Coast battle day, see armor nuts.

Thank you for wanting to my view my Tamiya 1/16 tanks. Cool.

The Panther will be weathered over the fall and winter months. It uses a custom DT gearbox mount brace, DT metal elevation arm, DT barrel sleeve, Tamiya solid turret clutch gear, Impact sprocket guides, tracks, sprockets and muzzle break. Each part mentioned solves a running issue, except the muzzle break. Now it will run.

My Panther runs great now and has the durability, one hopes, to hang with SCAT and DAK tanks without breaking down.

Hey, I like all toy stores too, what is wrong with that?

Yup. KT stock idler setup does suck. Daryl Turner's idler upgrade fises this problem. I have had no problems since upgrading. Why the heck can't Tamiya recognize this and create their own fix for these problems.

Turret rotation sucks also. I have not yet fixed this problem.

Gun elevation unit also needs to be better with it's up and down end points.

While these are the best tanks available, for the price I would expect Tamiya to make improvements to the various kits as they go.

Personally, I would prefer a chunky, heavy tank with more metal and aluminum parts and a whole lot less plastic crap wih more powerful motors to haul the increased weight.

Despite my above complaints about my KT, it didn't stop me from ordering a Panther which should be here any day now. I paid $645.00 delivered. I also bought bearings for the wheels, all of Daryl Turner's upgrades, metal track set from Mato and a metal road wheel set from Mato but, I'm not sure if it will fit the Tamiya Panther. Does anyone know?

I plan to order some Tamiya gears to fix the turret rotation problems and maybe an Impact photo etched detailing set from axels-modelbau. I've placed a few orders with axels and got great service and value with each order.

Are there any other upgrades that I (or anyone else) should consider for the Panther? What about the side skirts? Did many late model Panther G's have them?

Still researching the Panther and don't know about skirts.

Tamiya needs to spend more time designing parts that work to improve there pretty good tank kits.

I think I am a reasonably good Tamiya customer, but after 4 years of playing with their tanks, I do have a few issues with the kits.

Issue:
It is one thing to purchase upgrade parts (cool) and it is a little different "to have to" design, make or purchase corrective parts (not cool) to fix a poorly engineered kit.

Below is a photo outline of the "basic" corrective parts needed to help the King Tiger run and the gear reduction units used to slow it down (mounted in a static to f/o Porsche Tiger II conversion).

1. Spring loaded idler return system
2. Gearbox mount brace
3. Gear reduction

The 1/16 Kubel is the practice weathering model for how my new Panther (Italy Service) build will be weathered this fall/winter. Ardennes Ambush camo is interesting, but will try something else.

WW, write more about the DMD glitches concerns going on now over at armor nuts.

Good enough should not be OK for Tamiya.

ok..first off you have some fine lookin Tanks....(I was gonna outbid everyone else for the sherman you have up for sale..but anyway)....I'm not here to flame anyone or start something with anyone.I love this hobby just like the rest of us here..But to be called a liar..was just uncalled for.Im glad your Panther runs the way you want it to...Im not saying any aftermarket parts arent good im just saying I didnt need any.
The sprocket thing is not a myth as you stated...I never said I didnt have, or the kit doesnt have any issues..it does...but easy to fix..alittle TLC.....for the sprockets ..they are not "oversized"but they are to narrow on the inside width between the halves of the drive teeth..just take each half of the spockets and "LIGHTLY' file the inside till the track and teeth flow together nicely.not a big deal.and a easy fix.

Hey PPC, I think its great you got your Panth running without having to buy extras, thats how I build too, half the fun for me is improving on the engineering myself. I also think its great some vendors provide insta-fixes but not everyone wants to take that route. If I get a Panther ( or if the Jagd Panth has the same woes ) I will be referring to your build.

Thank you for the sprocket tip, but I tried that. Even took the parts to the scratch builder who made the 1st Tamiya Pershing prototype model and we discovered that the spockets that came with the kit I had did not have a width issue. But the teeth pitch and spacing was off, and we concluded that the sprocket part was about 10 to 15 percent to big for the tracks. In email to China with the Impact people, their obvservations were about the same, but much more engineering oriented.

Anyway, you have a neat Panther and I happy to hear it works. Off to the toy store, any toy store. Only reason I work.
