Interesting day at the pond. First tank - ran great for the whole tank, nonstop. On the next tank, the engine kept quitting after three laps. I didn't change anything between the runs. We ran it about eight more times - still kept quitting on about lap three. Ran with full tank, half tank, richened it up, leaned it out, new plug (OS A5), nothing seemed to work. Boat started back up on the first pull each time and would run great, then start to sputter and quit about 2-3 laps later. We observed water coming out of the side port, so nothing is plugged there. Can't tell if its overheating, because by the time we get it back to the shore it has cooled down. The engine was machined by you know who, running 30% nitro and the Grim 40 x 53 two blade prop.

Any ideas would be welcomed to help solve this.

Thanks in advance!

ka check the line from the muffler to the tank.. may have a pin hole and cant keep the pressure up for long runs... that happened to me on a nitro once... replaced the line.. all better,,, it deff sounds like a fuel problem.. but iam no expert...

Thanks Cwater. I'm doing that right now. I am also changing out the fuel line from the tank to the carb as well.

May have found the problem...I remember an earlier post saying not to overtighten the cap, so I checked by blowing through the pressure line while the fuel line was plugged... and heard alot of air coming out of the cap. I loosened it just a bit and the sound stopped. So, I put a line on the cap and the fuel tank to line up where the cap should be for a nice airtight (hopefully) seal. Hopefully this solves the problem. I'll know this weekend when I can run it again.

Gentlemen,

As a new comer to both boats and nitro, I am excited to get my new boat. Should have it in about a soon. I have spent about a week reading this post along with a couple of others. All I can say is WOW! Lots of info. From what I have read, I am going to have at least one extra flexshaft and also a couple of props ready when I fire this thing up for the first time.

I look forward to keeping you all informed on my trials and tribulations. I think everybody will find humor in hearing my experiences and comparing them to your own.

Thanks for all the great tips. I think the first one for me to remember is... keep the spinny thing in the water!

Good luck to all.

Tombo

Cwaterhunter - I've always had good performance with the X440 and the Grim 40 x 53 two blade. No GPS yet, so I can't give you exact speeds.

Tombo - Have some spare glowplugs on hand as well. Have fun!

Greetings all...

I must say, after surfing forums of all types for the last 10 years..I have NEVER seen a particular subject get so many responses/replies as some in this forum!!!!! This boat must indeed be one of the special ones!

So.....with all the information I digested from here and other places, I decided to take the plunge....

Today I ordered the SV27 Nitro from Towerhobbies and should have it next week (sooner I hope). Our vacation starts at the end of June and we will be at the lake back home in SC for 3 weeks! Plenty of time to test - tune - and have fun.

Now for the reality check....I am totally new to RC boats...well...this class anyway i dont count "toy" as real experience....and since I just jumped into RC Heli's last month, I needed something exciting for the water as well...so here I am!

I'll let you guys know how she runs, but it wont be for a couple of weeks, and I'll let you know how much the wife is hitting me up for alimony after this purchase! (JK)

Thanks for helping me choose, and you'll be seeing alot of me ( I ask alot of questions if I can't find it on my own..)

Take care
John

i did the same thing,,,i had a nitro vee,,, then i saw this tread,, said... hmmm fiber glass... bigger motor,,,better drive system.... and FASTER.. that was a no brainer lol iam still tinkering with the NV installed a super vee stinger on it,, got a 18 motor,,it might see the water this summer,, if not i have the super vee,,, also a gasser,,,so i at least have two boats that can get wet,,,,just as everyone says be paticent with the SV,,, it takes a while to break in and get dialed in.. the factory settings are close, but there is also alot of tinkering to do..... good luck with it and have fun... mark

Thanks, Kaptian I'll be sure to add that to "have to have" list.

I do have a couple of questions for the veterans. When I get my new boat and give it the once over, should I at least get it to fire before I head out to the water? I see that the concensus is to break it in on the water, but I would hate to get out there and have the same no start problems I have seen others have.

Also, what is recomended for gease on the flexshaft?

Thanks for your input.

Tombo
