This subject has been beat to death many times before. It always degenerates into a good verses evil argument depending on which side you are on. Let it go guys and let us move on to something useful…

Oh boy. I think I am going to hit the eject button on this one. We have had similar topics in the past, each start off nice but end with nasty bumps, bruises and bit marks. Lets just be glad that there are forums to talk about TANKS. There are several tank brands, so "to each his own."

No offense PorkChop. I do agree with all of your comments, but not about Tamiya tanks having their (our) own forum. I own 2 Tamiyas and I am glad to hear all sorts of ideas and comments about the tanks, regardless of brand. I like some of the paint schemes on some HL's. I just don't want to see us go down this road again.

I hope to add to my tank group a few HL's soon when I can afford it! I especially like the Bulldog and the PIII. I'd like to see a Stug III conversion someday too. I spent all my MADD money last year and have too many projects to do before I can spend any more.

As far as one against the other, really ... it shouldn't be that way. Just choose what poison floats your boat and have some fun.

Im yet to read a argument here that supports the Tamiya price tag

Reliability is worth money. I continue to be shocked at the numerous stories of brand new RTR tanks arriving from the vendor broken, missing parts or FAILS after so many hours running.

The need to purchase additional circuit boards, smokers etc for the EXPECTED breakdown is ludicruious to me. Just buy a better product.

Tam breakdowns are most exclusively due to abuse or running for very long periods.

The one advantage I have observed over Tamiya is general resistance to abuse as since Tam is a MODEL parts break off.

The Leopard 2A6 is the exception for the Tamiya line which is every bit as rugged as RTR tanks from my observation.

also I think maybe it might be a good idea to have a Tamiya section to this forum as it seem that this board seems to be about 98% Hen long topics.......what does everyone else think...vote?

AT LEAST add HL, Tamiya, WSN, etc... to the Post Title. That way you don't have to look at every post to find out what brand it is about.

My vote is NO NO NO NO, I've had and still have both, there is alot we learn from both and most seem to no problem with only one forum.

K so what Ive got out of it is that Tamiya are better quialty for sure, but most said there not worth the price. So why is Tamiya selling them for that much? If they were to lower the price many more people would buy them and wouldent that give them even more profit then they were getting from like 10 people at $500?

Just out of curiosity,

What would be a good price for a Tamiya tank?

I wish they would lower prices, too. They should sell the Panther for $100.00.

It's an interesting discussion (when we can keep it pleasant!)
My opinion, is that Tamiya's are obviously better, but for me I don't think they're worth the price they charge compared to the HL/WSN/Mattoro's. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that if Tamiya's prices stay as they are then I'll probably never buy one. I'd rather have 2-3 tanks of other brands with full metal upgrades, maybe scratch build parts for some different variants when I want a stronger modelling side to the hobby.
I just can't justify the price of a Tamiya as they stand at the moment.. no matter how awesome Sturn's KT is looking!

I'm like a brooding mother with my HL Tiger as it is because I spent so many hours "correcting" it and I wouldn't consider it "cheap". Can you imagine what I'd be like with a Tam, for the hours to make it AND the cost?!! I'd have to hire armed guards for it, and modifying it would never even enter my mind.. what if it went wrong?!!

To me at the current cost, I don't want one for the same reason I don't want a Ferrari.. I'd spend far more time worrying about it getting wrecked than I would actually enjoying it!

Here we go again.......

For me, (2 tamiyas, 1 HL) there is no real incentive to have the tanks unless there is a battle system.
I do enjoy building them and some scratch builds also but what do you do when the tank is finished?

When HL or WSN comes out with a nice battle system, the Tamiya price will be harder to swallow. For now, I stick with Tamiya.

Why would Tam drop their prices if people are willing to pay them. If no-one bought the new Panther then I'm sure Tam would drop their prices but as long as enough people buy them then the bod's at Tam will think the price is OK.

If HL and others started building tanks to the same detail and quality as Tam then they may have to rethink their prices.

It'll be good to see what the new Trumpeter (WSN) King Tiger is like when it comes out. Trumpeter make very good kits and if the WSN version is good enough it may effect Tam KT sales enough for them to drop their prices.

I think that in some ways HL may increase Tam sales, I've wanted a 1/16 rc tank for years but could never justify spending that much on a toy. Now I've got my HL's, I've really got the "tankers" bug and a Tam seems even more appealing.
