Thanks. I love bringing her out. Always gets plenty of attention and it's a joy to fly.

Nice work! I built the 52" CDF Bronco a few years ago and the colors are easy to see but just to be different, my 80" plane will be olive drab this time around. Broncos are crowd pleasers, thanks for the motivation!

Question: Does anyone have a good source for graphics? I stopped adding details on my old Bronco after I carved out a couple of "Fire" decals. Also, what is your favorite way to protect graphics from nitro?

Here's an update, I did a little research and found a couple of R/C graphics websites that look promising. This one is run by a modeler, http://www.cfcgraphics.com, and http://www.pro-mark.com also looks promising. Looks like I won't have to carve out "Marines" this time around...hoo-rah!

Thank you! It will be a while before I finish my plane, but if it comes out half as nice as yours , I will be a happy guy. (Actually if one Viet Nam vet likes it, that's good enough for me!)

Dry transfers will be superior to cut vinyl.

CanDo, Old Buddy. It's "Oohrah!" Don't you watch Mail Call? Jeez!

But, I have a confession: I spent four years in the Corps that included a tour in Vietnam back in '70-'71. Never once did I hear anyone say anything like "Oohrah" during my time with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. What I do remember hearing quite often was the term, "Attitude Check". I don't hear that at all anymore.

I have the Uravitch 81" Bronco yet to be built and I plan on doing mine in the markings of VMO-2 which was just a few hangars down the flightline from my unit. Those guys did a fantastic job and I never tired of watching those OV-10's in the air. Man, that's a beautiful airplane!

Al

-Ed, thanks for the info about dry transfers, I will check it out.
-Al, sorry about the mistake (I make a lot of them!), but what do you expect for a Navy guy? I was a Sonar Operator in the USNR, flying in SH3A Sea King 'copters in '69. Since almost no one flys twins at our local fields, and since very few remember 'Nam, I thought it was time to make a plane that reminded folks of the sacrifices these guys made. I can't describe it, but there is something that grabs me about the OV-10. If you have a photo of VMO-2 bird, I wouldn't mind seeing it.

If you've yet to begin the build of the Bronco I would suggest that you take steps to lighten it up while building. My bronco is built from the kit originally put out by Hobby Hangar. It had all the critical pars cut out and the rest of the wood was listed don a build sheet which called for bulkhead formers made from 1/4X3/4" bass wood and the fuse sides are light ply. If I had it do do over again I would replace lots of that heavy wood with balsa. I have the ARF version along with the kit plane and there is no comparisonin weight. The ARF has balsa sheeting on the sides of the nacelles and the fuselage instead of ply and all formers in the ARF are 1/8"" or 3/32" light ply. It is said that the Kiit version can be built to 15-17 lbs but mine came out at almost 23lbs, some of which is due to the fact that I glassed the nacelles and fuse and used Sierra retracts. The glass on the fuse and nacelles sure did make it tough though. If I had replaced the ply sides and the bass wood formers and did a better job with the glass and paint I am sure I could have got her down in weight by at least three pounds or so. Hope you enjoy your Bronco as much as I do mine. Even at 23lbs it lands and flies great but 17lbs would be really sweet.

All good advice. My wing has 3/4" x 24" wing joiners at the nacelles, and flaps. With 2 aileron and 4 flaps servos, pushrods, wiring, etc, it will easily be over 3 lbs before covering. No doubt, "features" add weight; without the joiners (8 oz) and flaps (4 servos = 6 oz), my framed up wing would have been ~2 1/4 lbs, but I want these features! I also bought the wood parts kit, but I will be using most of the lite ply pieces as patterns to cut out balsa parts. My fuse tailcone is now balsa, which saved 2 1/2 oz. The plan is to try to lighten up anything behind the CG as much as possible without sacrificing strength and reliability.

For sure!! I have mine set up with two recievers and two six volt battery battery packs all the way in the nose cone and still had to add about two pounds of weight in the compartment just ahead of the nose wheel retract. I'm using saito 82's on mine also.
