I'm getting this kit this week from Tower Hobbies. Has anyone got one in the air yet? I'm going to use a OS FS.91 for power as our flying field is at @ 2700 feet above sea level. Great Planes has a fairly good rep and this looks like a neat plane! I am worried about the tail skid though, but do not want to go to a tail wheel as that would detract from the scale appearance. Questions and comments welcome!

Thanks & Happy Flying!

Looked at the kit today at the local HS. The 91 should do just fine as this thing is pretty light. At your altitude a 120 will certainly provide plenty of reserve.

I was interested in it but some T_rd had already rifled through the kit, torn parts bags open and punched a hole through the fuse side where it rounds towards the cowl. Clerk said the SOB squeezed it and after it popped he shoved it back in the box and pronounced it a flimsy piece of crap.

Contrary to the moron's thoughts, it looked very well done and smoothly covered. Stained wood interplane struts and tail skid, painted metal cabanes and wire gear. Cowl and accessories beautifully painted.

I may still get one but I'll wait for another unsealed one.

I just bought one and am trying to find out how it flys, any bad habbits, how it lands!!!!! is very important.

Is it a handful, sensitive, gentile???

The plane looks like its very well made, i'm thinking about a Saito 91, 100 or 120 for power.

I'd love to hear any comments about this plane.

Thanks

This plane appears to be well made. I do however need to address a bit of info that is omitted from the instructions - there is no mention of the required incidence (angle of attack) for the landing gear wing. This must be set correctly so as not to counter the incidence on the other wings. I do not know what the necessary setting needs to be so I would like to hear from someone with experience in setting this measurement. The kit is very well made and the covering is as good as it gets.

Oh almost forgot- in the instructions GP says that if the plane is going to be used for "dog fighting" it should be "beefed up". Duh!, the original was engineered for dog fighting so what does this mean???

Happy Flying!!!

Could some one that has one of these Great Planes Tripes let me know the dimensions from the firewall to the front of the cowl? Thanks, Mark Rose

I noticed that the instructions dosen't mention engine offset to compensate for torque?

I'll have to look to see where they say to beef it up?

I talked with GP today. They said the thrust angles are set into the firewall. They said you don't have to worry about the incidences (horse hockey!). That bottom landing gear wing"must" be set at the same incidence as the rest! They said you don't have to worry about beefing the airframe up unless you're doing 3D aerobatics. They said the tail skid won't wear on grass ( come on guys, do you really fly what you make?) Still, I'm happy with the quality of the kit and with some "experience" in building will correct their "they saids".

Happy Flying!

I should be starting to build mine next week. I'd agree that the incidence must be the same as the wing. the tail skid should be on a pivot and spring loaded to absorb some shock.

The plane looks great and covered very good. I was a little worried about the part in the instructions that tell you to iron the wings. So I'll be checking for warps!

Let me know when you start to build yours and we'll compare notes.
