Nitroplanes Yak. Price 84.95 Good looking plane, light weight, good price.

I order one. No mention anywhere in the process of shipping costs UNLIKE MOST ONLINE ORDERING.

I get the tally by direct email.

Shipping and handling 45 dollars.

???????????????????????????????

Needless to say, I'll hesitate a great deal before ordering again.

I'm in Canada but geez.

USPS for a small, light box like that would have been,,, 10 dollars?

Yes, I know there are issues with damage, no tracking etc. but if a person was willing to chance it, why not? Give us the choice. I have NEVER had damage or loss by US mail,,, never.

Nitro planes only ships to Canada by Postal service, why they say ups in their checkout is beyond me. Last year I ordered 2 planes and was charged a total of $38 for shipping. Their "handling fee" must have went up. I do want to order another plane from nitro, but i would like a concrete, reasonable shipping price first.

Me too.

I tried to avoid UPS's heavy brokerage fee.

They said they'd ship Fedex and that would be better. Or at least, that was implied. If that's not what they meant they might have been more clear about it.

When I get the shipment, I'm going to take a note of the size, weight, etc. and call around for prices. Maybe there's a way to ship to Canada that's good for everyone, including them.

I never could figure out what "handling" was. When you run a business, your profit margin was there to cover expenses. If you low ball your prices to get the sale and then hit the customer with "handling" fee, that is NOT the way to acquire loyal, repeat business.

Let us know what the actual charges are when you get it. I bought a pilot last month from nitro, $7.50, exactly what I needed, $12.00 in shipping! Box said $1.30 on it. I was pissed! Always double check with Alex at ak models, nitro has a better selction, but ak is reasonable on shipping. If nitro would straighten out there shipping fiasco, they would have much more buisness. Nitro may blame it on the cost of gas at the pump, but UPS, fedex and USPS online calculators don't lie.

for candian order yahoo does not allow us to put fedex rates into them and it's an IT technical issue. Anyways, we use USPS to ship to canada for small items and fedex ground to ship gian scale planes. We do not use UPS because they charge huge brokage fees.

When order please select UPS ground to canada and your shipping rate will show.

OK John,

I believe you meant to say USPS ground to Canada? So if I specify USPS,,, that is, US mail, NOT UPS, then my exact shipping charges will show? Will this reflect actual shipping cost or will there be a "handling" fee?

I've run several businesses in my former life, we did extensive shipping to customers all over North America. The customer and WE knew the deal. Your price, as advertised, should be THE price. Anything else is the extra expense of getting it out the door. That exact cost should reflect back to the customer. No more. Your profit margin is your business and I mean that literally AND figuratively. Make it all "up front" and you'll have guys coming back, again and again.

The saving grace in all of this is this. The product looks very good. The design, trim, weight, size,,,, everything exactly what I was looking for. Price? WOW, how do they do it? Well, now we know. And if I pay exactly THIS much and it IS a good product, well, that's OK too but it would be far better to know exactly what your cost will be. Exactly.

I will say this. I had ordered some Towerpro servos and I don't recall the details but I had no reason to complain when they came in. I had some trepidation though, because as I was waiting for them to come in, I read, on some other thread, some guys trashing these servos. The price was the giveaway, it seems. Well, when I got them in, I HAD NO REASON TO COMPLAIN. Gear train is tight, NO SLOP. I really like that in a servo. Plugged them all in and they all ran strong and smooth as silk. I haven't flown them yet though and that will tell the true tale. But for now, I am quite pleased with them.

Will do, bikerfrmhell. Getting hit with such a charge with the actual shipping cost far, far less really leaves an acid taste in your mouth. Every time you see a Nitroplanes ad, you get that taste all over again. That's called a Pavlovian response. Takes a long, long time before it goes away, if ever.

As I said, I had run several businesses over the years and small sales were looked at this way. If they didn't get out of hand, they were tolerated as a "loss leader". Let it go, the customer will be happy and he might come back and buy lots more making up for it. If not, then apply a minimum billing. Many is the time I needed some little thing. Just had to have it, was stuck. So I'd look around the shop, reflect a bit and sure enough there were items I would need. Not right away like the original item but things that were getting in short supply. An extra servo, some of this, some of that. Next thing you know, minimum billing. I'm happy the vendor's happy. And if minimum billing scares me away, well,,, at least I haven't been turned off entirely.

Sorry to preach, wish I was back in the game, I guess.

It's UPS standard to canada. I don't understand where you get the handling fee thing? We do not do that. All price are up front and we do not charge extra. For candian customers, you pay the price of the item listed on the website plus shipping and that's it. If candian government decided to charge import tax on you then it's out of our hands.

Many candian customer does not select UPS standard to canada and shipping charges did not show up so we have to add it for them when we process the order. So candian customers must select ""UPS Standard to Canada""

we use USPS for small items like parts and fedex ground to canada for large planes.

This was the small Yak. Is that considered too large for USPS? In retrospect, I can see where it might be. I did make a point that I wanted to avoid large brokerage fees. Canadian postal services are VERY reasonable in this regard. Many times, the parcel just shows up at the door. This is why I wanted to avoid UPS. If Fedex is no better, then now I know.

I can see why in some businesses, Canadian orders aren't worth the hassle. So much for "free trade, Nafta, Mafta, Kafta Bafta". But, I'm editorializing, sorry.

Here's an idea. Partner with Great Hobbies in Canada to carry your goods to cater to Canadians. Check them out, they do a good job.

In this order, we shipped via fedex ground to canada so you wonder why we did not ship via USPS? Well because fedex comes to our warehouse and pickup but USPS does not, at least not for international shipments. For USPS shipements we actually have to bring the item to the USPS counter and have it weight and ship it over there. This is why we prefer Fedex instead. Yes the yak electric is not a large item compared to other gianscale planes but it's an item we would ship via fedex rather than USPS. As for fedex, I know they do not charge custom brokage fee like UPS does.

There is no handling charge just ignore that as we only charge shipping.

I ran a small, industrial supply store. Would you believe that a 10 dollar bearing could shut down a gold mine with tens of thousands lost per day. Then there was the guy with a dead lawn mower. All were treated equal. The mine did not get the lesser service, the lawn mower guy got EQUAL service.

Not the point but we also had a van. At 4 PM, our driver, with a full van, made the trip to the post office, Purolator, and UPS in the space of an hour with time to spare for a coffee. Yes, this is a small mining town, but still.

Anyway, your attention to this is appreciated, not many would do that.

I'm looking forward to installing a dieselized Norvel .15 into this plane. No smoke and noise, no glory.

I may post a review.

As promised, I'm getting back to this issue of shipping costs. I'll take mustard and ketchup with that crow I'm about to eat. Apologies to NitroPlanes, they do good in their shipping. At least they did in my case.

Cold call to Fedex. From my location to Alhambra, CA, location of NitroPlanes.

One parcel, 6 lbs, 8" x 13" x 32"

Ground, 9 days, price 21.00 dollars

Air, 2 days, 122.00 dollars

Air, 1 day, 145.00 dollars.

I paid 45 dollars and got the parcel inside of a week.

Here's the rub.

By ground, the customer pays brokerage. By AIR, the shipper pays brokerage and, reasonably, applies that charge to the customer's bill.

I can't tell whether my shipment was sent ground or air but, whatever, I paid 45 dollars to NitroPlanes and got the parcel within one week. THIS INCLUDED Brokerage AND taxes. No customs duty applies.

I thought I had to pay shipping and handling and then, also pay whatever, in brokerage and taxes. As it turns out, NitroPlane's charge for S & H included ALL costs.

As they are a large customer, they likely get a good rate from the transport companies.

On top of all that, the box the kit came is is heavy duty and could cost up to ten dollars, retail. I know, we sometimes had to resort to that for special shipments.

IT GETS BETTER.

I'm extremely pleased with the Yak I received. I'm not so sure many modellers could produce such good work. Laser cutting with gorgeous trim applied virtually perfectly. Light, strong, very well engineered.

I wondered how NitroPlanes could do it. I'm still wondering. Bravo, NitroPlanes. Many thanks and I do apologize for shooting from the lip.

I'm working on a gasser conversion. Seeing this kit prompted me to go back to the website to order a biggie. DANG, they're out of stock.

NitroPlanes has been filed in my favourites folder for modelling supplies.

I just ordered the new ULTIMATE BIPE for 50cc from NITROPLANES. This thing looks beautiful in the pictures. Shipping was very reasonable. Approximately $45 from SoCal to N/W Ohio via UPS. I will give my report when it arrives.
