I was wondering if you 'JR racing dudes in the know' can comment:

Ive purchased some JR 3421's for elev/ail on my forthcoming Q40's. But I dont have enough for my airframes because they have been in very short supply & backorder status among most distributers here in Kanuckland. They used to stock 3421-SA's & 3421 (no further description).

- from the JR/Horizon website I take SA's to mean a plastic based gear train & the plain 3421 to mean metal gear, same torque & transit time specs. Is that correct?
- any comments on which is better for Q40/500, does metal wear faster & develop backlash faster under vibration etc?
- usually I interpret depleted supply to mean something new is coming in to replace it, any news in that regard?
- what would be next best JR in a pinch?

Thx, Peter

Yes that is correct. The SA (sport application) is nylon geared, and the standard 3421 is metal geared. The often heard comment is that the metal geared servos develop slop quicker, but I have not noticed it with the digital versions. The SA version is a bit lighter and plenty strong enough from what I've seen.

In Q500, I think the 3421 is over kill and would stick with the standard 3121 mini coreless servo. I do like the 3421 for Q40 on Elevator and Aileron, but also use the Futaba 9650 which is a bit cheaper and does just as good a job.

I wouldn't classify myself as a JR guy, I just try to use the best stuff that any of the major guys make. Those servos are tough to beat in these classes.
