i would like some help choosing an electric ducted fan.

here's what i'd like to get:

2.5" (63.5mm), 3" (76.2mm), or 4" (101.6mm) sizes (or anything in between)
will be powered by a 13-14V system with plenty of current (anything less than 100amps is ok)
max thrust possible! hoping to get up to 1psi output (which would be 112oz of thrust)
i'd prefer a brushless motor, but cost is a high priority, so i don't mind either way.

and at reasonable cost (<$100, <$50 preferred)

btw, this would be for fan and motor.

any suggestions would be great, or if you could point me towards some good retailers i can look around for myself.

thanks

United Hobbies ... its very cheap, you got fan units, ESCs, motors etc there ... as for getting 112 oz of thrust you best go to RC Groups to find out who has tested what system to get what thrust. You can expext to run a 90mm fan on 8S to get that sort of performance.

It says ... Recomended Motor: 36-45 4 Turn (14.8~22.2v)

The motor you need has a diameter of 36mm and a length of 45mm ... eg. Hacker B50, Feigao 540 class motor, the number of KV depending on how many cells of lipoly you use.

found these on united hobbies:

https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2077

it appears to be the only one that has a 5mm shaft. They don't list the dimensions, but
what I found online I don't think it's 36x45, and I think it is 8 turn, not 4. Are these things
going to make it incompatible with that fan?

Now the Feigao 540 motor is a 36mm diameter can, they come in difference lenghts and windings. The number of turns is NOT a good way to judge motors from different brands, best to know how many KV exactly. The one you got is really long, its the XL series. The thing what would be "incompatible" for the fan is mainly the diameter of the motor. A 2,000+KV motor is good for a 6S set up.

You really have to decide what you want to use the EDF for ... if you want to run 14V max then you are talking 4S lipoly, 13.8V. Then you want a motor of about 4,400 KV and the 540 might be too much for that set up. A lower voltage set up will pull more amps if you still want the same amount of thrust watts = volts x amps.

The Feigao 380 motor with a 70mm fan may be better but you will be getting like only 5 lbs thrust only and pulling about 45A.

so the motor would be compatible?

how much current would it draw from a 13.8V setup?

and how much thrust would i end up with (that fan/motor combo on 13.8v)?

Xluben - I can only give estimates, never tried that fan before and each fan will be different. Why don't you go to RC Groups, the EP guys there are so active and they have actual test figures, very helpful people too.
