I have been flying my OS46FX motor for many months, with extreme reliability on Omega (castor ) 15%. Yesterday, having run out of fuel at the field, a friend filled my tank with fresh Wildcat (synthetic) also 15%. I estimate my tank had 25% of the old Omega still in it when he topped off my tank. It started, flew well for about 4 minutes, and then quite unexpectedly, when transitioning up from a low rpm, it went dead. Now this motor always idles nicely at around 2400 rpm and is dry enough on the low end so she doesn't load up during idling. So, is it the fuel mix that caused the dead stick. The plug is still good, and no other change has been made. I made a successful landing, but I would be interested in hearing others opinions about this, so as to be sure to avoid it in the future. Also, I like the idea of synthetic, and would like to continue using it to keep my motor clean.
thanks

different fuels need different needle settings, sometimes even when the ingredients of the fuel have the same amount.
i think in your case the small needle needed to be a little more open.

Yep, its not the fuel but the needle setting. Different oil percentages and oil types may affect needle setting.

Wildcat fuel is good fuel. I burn whatever is available in my area and have burned WC fuel with no problems other than an occasional fouled idle bar plug with deposits.

I would never run my engines without some castor, even the 4 strokes.
