Again, just for the sake of clarity, it is Spektrum, NOT JR, who did the engineering and production of the spread spectrum RF decks and receivers that will be used by JR in their radios. It IS a very close working relationship, but they are not one and the same company.

Point taken literally would mean that JR remains in the dark ages with regard to technology.

Bill,

JR unfortunately could not (due to unforseen circumstances) go ahead with their 2.4 GHz solution and are now working very closely with Horizon (& Spektrum) to provide the Upper range 2.4 GHz Transmitters.

Are you saying/implying that JR was/is working on a DIFFERENT 2.4 technology but due to some "circumstance(s)" went with the Spektrum technology instead? Further, are you saying this is going to remain the status for the foreseeable future?

While I have no idea what the future will bring it is almost always a serious strategy mistake for any manufacturer to leave crucial design elements in the hands of third parties. A similar strategy in other industries would be considered the beginning of the end.

When another company becomes critical to the survival of YOUR company, you buy them or merge with them. At the very least you purchase full/permanent rights to the technology. IMO

After speaking to some people the other day from Horizon in the UK they were quite talkative re the current situation and it looks like JR were quite shrewd (might be spelt wrongly

) they had to get clearance in the UK from Offcom which took about a year apparently. The end result here is that any other system being brought into the market now has to be fully compliant with any other existing equipment already available for sale. This means that (at least here in the UK) Futaba will also have to gain the relevant certification from Offcom and of course ensure that it is compliant with any system currently being sold.
It may be some time in this case before the Futaba sets get onto the shelves in the UK.

The article re the Insurance was in the May edition of the Radio Control Model Flyer ( it has a yellow and black Bipe on the fron page )

It is my understanding that JR were ready to show an entry level system at Nuremberg this year but then the "unforseen circumstances" reared its ugly head. It is my understanding that it was NOT a technical issue.

JR are partnering with Horizon/Spektrum and again it is my understanding (subject to confirmation) that JR will manufacture the 9 & 12 channel systems incorporating Spektrums 2.4 GHz RF section.

No doubt JR will continue development on their own solution but as a low priority.

But as well know things that are set in concrete can change overnight !!

I don't know about any R&D inside of JR, or what the corporate plans are for them, so please don't take what I am saying as gospel. I also don't know about what was done in earlier systems. But I did just finish writing up a review for RCU of the JR X9303 2.4 radio. Yes, this radio uses Spectrum RF components. The receiver is a JR R921 9 channel receiver which has the Spektrum logo printed on it as well as the words Spektrum printed there. The RF module in the transmitter has the Spektrum logo on it as well. In addition, you can use the Spectrum AR7000 7-channel and the AR6000 park flyer receivers with this transmitter too. The radio itself is the same radio as the JR XP9303 that is already on the market.

I was just about to place an order for the Spektrum module for my PCM 9x transmitter before I came across this thread.
When do you reckon that the new 2.4 GHz transmitters will be on sale in the UK

In reference to the JR 9303 2.4 rradio. This is the radio Quique was using at the SEFF flying his prototype Python that crashed. I've heard the radio locked out which caused the crash. Does anyone know if that is the case. And what about the huge capacitors that are supposed to plug into the RX'r to prevent it from re-booting. Anyone know what this is about ?
