You will need to give us some back ground info first. What is your skill levle? Have you ever flown Q-40 or Q-500 ?

Plus, do you have upwards of $800.00 to spend on a painted in the mold Q40?

Hello, To answer both questions I fly Q-500 now and when I was in the sport twenty yrs. ago I flew Formula 1, Quickie, and a little bit of quarter midget. Currently I'm flying Q-500 (424) to get back into practice and also some very quick electrics (brushless speed 400 stuff). Second, Yes I'm aware of the cost of a competive Q-40.That was the reason for the question I don't like spending money for second of third best equipment. Looking foward to your advice,Thanks Eddie.

Several good options available:

California Speed Pro's has several planes that are popular (Vendetta, Proud Bird II, and Dago) His new PBII is getting good reviews from those flying them, and the Vendetta just set the new National Record. Last plane I bought from Lyle, was painted, firewall installed, basically ready to go for about $750. His lead times are normally pretty good.

Big Bruce Racing / super T rc have several good planes also (Polecat, Loki, GR7) I've only flown the Polecat, and now that I got a good servo in it, its flying great. Pricing will be cheaper on these planes, but your lead time will most likely be out quite a bit, especially with the rush for Nats planes.

Rusty's Ashleys have been great planes, but not sure if they are still being Made / Sold.

H&M Racing still sells MIss Candaces, not sure on price or lead time.

Vendettas have always been my favorite, but I'm happy with my Dago, Ashley, and Polecat, and have a Loki and Gr7 on order, so I'm not stuck on any one plane.

All Q40s pretty much take off, fly, and land well if they are set up properly. Depending on how soon you want it, and the price you want to pay may be a higher determining factor.

Well, I will unashamedly promote a home grown product. The "Miss Candace" by H&M Racing is an excellent choice. If it's pilot had not hit the pylon at last years Nats it would have been the winning airplane.

Go Here:- www.hmracinginc.com

There are of course many other built Q40s available.

Thanks Guys, I'm thinking that I'll either go with a Vendetta or Candice both very good looking models. I'm glad to have a site like this to get the combined knowledge from everyone on here. Has anyone been using the new 2.4 Gz. Spektrum stuff in Q-40 ? Wondering about any problems with the composite and tiny ant. Anyone heard ? Thanks again guys, Eddie

Quite a few using it and there doesn't seem to be any problem.

At Februarys Phoenix Q40 Classic, I believe most (if not all) of the red shirted horizon/Jr pilots were using the DX7. I'm not aware of any of them having an issue that could directly be placed at the blame of the radio.

Going from a F-1 many years ago to a Q-40 now , man, your in for a treat. So much easier to deal with, 15 % fuel, bladder tanks, black props, you can't go wrong.

you did find the right place for info, now write that check, get your stuff and hold on to your sticks !

I flew mine this past Saturday after a long winter wait, wow, those things are FUN !

Daven: Rusty is still making the Ashley, at least one. Had to have one the way you talked about it last year. Should be finished any day now, Ordered it in November, there were 3-4 ahead of my order. This guy sure looks out for his buyers. He did not like my motor mount layout, so called and asked if he could order what he needed from Jett. This one is intended to be a good but fast sport flyer, Jett 50 powered. Don't think the racing comittee will buy the "Its a stand-off scale model" approach. Maby if they see it flying around the field at 1/4 throttle, you think?

The Ashley is a very good flying Q40, just don't get the CG back to far, or it will be squirly on landing. My old dog (ashley) its gotta be 6 years old now, is going to Florida again this weekend as my back up. It should fly well with a Jett 50, although your on your own about scale

Well I finally got a Q40, a Napier. I believe it's a Lyle Larson from what I've been told, the name on it was Stu McAfee. I need to know where the C/G should be, and what throws I need to start with. Thanks to RC Universe's own Daven, I now have a Nelson to get started with(Thanks Dave!!) Any and all advice is gladly needed. Hoping to test soon,I look forward to giving you guys someone new to beat up on for a while very soon! Thanks, Eddie
