Hi, Ima noob when it comes to electric RC. Me and some friends are getting into circle track with our stadium trucks. Right now I have a cheap 35$ Prophet charger. Im running Ib4200 batteries ( matched to 35amps).... Im looking for a good charger that can discharge and charge batteries.... Im looking to spend around 150$ or so.

Any input that can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

I have the ICE charger and it can charge up to 8A, which would be about a 2C for you, which is probably as much as you want to go anyways (I'm assuming those are some NiMh packs?). The other popular charger is the triton2 and that one can charge up to 7A. There are also alot of other chargers out there that are more off the beaten path. There are also the MRC Brain chargers... but I've heard of several problems with those, but alot of people like them too. The one thing nice about them is they come with a power supply. If you have an old computer power supply sitting around, you can use one of those too.

The ICE has alot of nice features for R/c car/trucks/buggy's in competitions

I have been considering that ICE charger also... but a friend of mine is telling me to get the superbrain 989. From what I gather. They both have the ability to charger or discharge 2 batteries at a time. But only the MRC has false peak detection....

What kind of problems have you heard about the SuperBrain series?...

And thanks for the info. Much appreciated!

main QC type issues, like the charger stops working after so long or something. I can't remember anything too specific because it was a while ago that I looked it up. I think the 989 and the ICE can only charge once battery each. The new tritonzx will be able to charge 2 batteries at a time though when it comes out. I think the accucycle can charge two batteries at a time, but it doesn't have quite as many features, but it may be worth looking at as well. The 966 brain had a software issue in it that would make it ignite lipos somehow. I don't remember the exact reasoning for it, but they offer a free software upgrade for the 966 to turn it into a 977, you just have to mail it in to them. The MRC has a higher capacity (like more cells), but I think the ICE is a much better quality charger. That's just my 2 cents

Best all around charger for the money, I'd have to say is the Bantam BC8.. It does it all.. Nimh, Nicd, Lipo, Pb and balances the lipos..
