you can also get an msd ignition for it and it will provide up to 3+++++ hp[:D]

Mate,
By the time I did all these mods on a basically agricultural engine, I could hunt down something more suited to the original pupose/specs.
As said before, I'm not trying to re-create the Bluebird here, just a cool working model.

Fun is what it's all about - we all get our jollies in many different ways

remember -

there is a fine line between a hobby, and a mental illness!!![:)]

[:D]Hi Mudgy, Let us see some video's when you are finnished! Great craftmanship!

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/7/2007 10:31 AM)

G'day ScooterTrash,

I have to be in the garage for work to re commence - I'm finding it tough to do at the moment, work has realli stepped up a notch where I am.

I promise I will return to the "Man Shed" soon, and get this baby up and running.
My digital camera/video has a busted microphone, so I'll have to get that fixed before I get footage

No point posting if you can't hear the roar, right??

ScooterTrash -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/7/2007 10:40 AM)

[;)]Hi Mudgy, That's right! O'Well, all good things come to thoes that wait! Can't wait to see & here it. Well I guess I am going to keep mine->RCuniverse. Look at he last post.

DYING BREEDS WE ARE NOT, YOU CANT BEAT A HOME BUILD FOR SATISFACTION ALL THE BEST YOLL !!!!!!!

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/9/2007 1:44 AM)

Hi JET MAN,

Great work!!

When we spoke about front wheels, now I see the slim design, maybe 1/10 tamiya front wheels from some of their battery powered 2WD buggies woul do the trick??
Along with their steering knuckles & C hubs, you might pull off a better scale look?

When I first started, my rail was only 4 -5 ft. long, & I was planning on using front wheels from the trusty ol' Super Hornet

Plastic rims, tyres available from ANYWHERE, ball raced & light weight - Alas, they don't suit my needs now, cos this thing went BIG[:)]

Does your chassis have some sort of floor for stiffness? Or will it wobble like a Belly Dancer?

Left to right wobbles are Disastrous - no steering control if you get the Death Wobbles[X(]

Bye for now

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/11/2007 9:47 AM)

OK, I finally had some time this weekend to do a bit -
I made a stainless shatter shield for the clutch assembly, AND I made a collar to suit the shoes to the non-standard bell.
I dug through my engine bits, and found the special washer that keeps the clutch shoes throwing out in a straight plane.
I now have a sleeve that allows chain to run freely over the clutch bell pinion, and I only have around 0.5 mm end play at the bell.

ABOUT TIME!!!

I have now stripped it down (again)[&o]

This time, ready for paint and a clean.

When it's assembled, I can start and drive and show this thing

Pictures to follow

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/11/2007 10:14 AM)

Collar and clutch, shatter shield. Shield started life as a desktop calendar stand/base[:D]

sam123 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/11/2007 4:09 PM)

Man, that thing is awsome. It sure does look like the real deal!

2 Things though:
Firstly, do you still have the pressure-pulse hole going to the carbi? or have you just case pulsed it? If you dont the engine will not run.

Secondly, I seriously think you should have a little scoop at the bottom of the chassis, underneath the engine to force air up through the collong fins of the cylinder, by doing this you will able to keep the engine a little cooler.

Keep us updated!

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/13/2007 12:05 PM)

Hi Sam,
yes, the pulse port is still in its original location - next to the inlet manifold

I could cut ALL the fins off this engine and it would not get hot

It only runs for 3 mins maximum, then the fuel is all gone

bigmodman -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/14/2007 6:40 PM)

man all i have to say is WOW you have amazing work!!!!!![X(][:D]i wish i could be that great of a builder lol but i am workin on it [:)]

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/15/2007 12:04 PM)

Just as long as it doesn't do this, I'll be happy[:)]

bigmodman -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/15/2007 7:32 PM)

yeah that is true![:)]haha but with your amazing work i dont think it will

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/17/2007 12:03 PM)

OK,

I had a chance to do some more work

Had to dismantle it (AGAIN[:o])

This time, it's for the final prep - final filing/machining of assemblies for best fit,

Clean and polished all my alloy bits - they actually came up looking not too bad!!

chassis was repaired/sanded for final paint

with all this bling, I will have to wear a welder's helmet to see it in the sun[:)]

Still have to polish up the rear axle mount/chute deck

I hope to do some paintng when the rain is finished - got some storms happening right now - humidity & paint = don't bother[;)]

Then I'll have to make a wing Hmmmmm, where to start on that?

ttoks -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/17/2007 3:00 PM)

looks awesome man, you'll never have to worry about it over heating, the chainsaw engines will run for hours in all the plastic covers that cover the engine without overheating with just a wussy little flywheel to keep it cool, with all the air flow is will be getting it ain't gonna over heat.

cant wait for a video [:D]

yeeharacing -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/17/2007 5:35 PM)

How much could the engine overheat in 165 feet?

As long as your not burning it down at the lights before hand you'd never have a problem.

bigmodman -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/17/2007 8:33 PM)

dude that freakin awesome!!!!!!lovin the beer shot.what kind o beer coors or what???

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/18/2007 2:21 AM)

Carlton Draught - I got hooked on this one from too many country trips to Victoria - even our German programmer reckons it's a good one[:D]

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/19/2007 12:11 PM)

I noticed the warning on my flywheel when I was doing some more work on the engine mounts -

If someone says "don't push that button"........

What do you reckon I'd do???[:)]

splcrazy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/20/2007 8:34 AM)

can that thing actually smoke em up like the real thing?

Mudgy, all that is, is the engine running a tad rich. [;)] Nothing a little leaning out won't fix. [:D][:)]

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/20/2007 11:09 AM)

Not sure, mate.

I'm hoping it will at least stage out long enough to heat up the tyres- they are 2nd hand Gokart front Slicks
If they smoke or not - I got
no complaints for 10 bucks each[:D]

Beasley1 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/20/2007 3:38 PM)

I took this vid at my work on open house day. Be sure to watch untill he hits the throttle.
