very nice man very nice!

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/3/2008 10:56 AM)

Well, I've had a few days to myself, so I've finished re building my boat, so i can muck around with this car again.
I thought I would make a wire mesh body mock up, but I ended up laying fibreglass straight over inside and outside. I made some tie rods today.....I still have to glass the front nose piece; that's already formed from wire. (I made a wire mesh bird trap over Christmas break, and used the leftover mesh for something else)

T I G -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/3/2008 5:25 PM)

Nice work, looks great.
The fiberglass looks awesome. How many layers are you going to do?

bigmodman -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/3/2008 8:43 PM)

man that thing is looking great!

Hello mate

Just 2 layers - 1 x outside, 1 x inside the wire mesh. I attacked it with an angle grinder with a sanding disc on the weekend to cut a rough shape that I can work from; the rest of the low spots will be levelled up with a touch more resin. I've made a surfboard before, and this is a bit harder to do. Only negative is the amount of white dust on all my stuff! I hate clean - ups!!!

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (4/26/2008 12:52 PM)

Well, not much doin', except for a post or 2 on youtube...

have a look

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (5/31/2008 10:52 AM)

well, the place still smells of wet resin - this stuff is on the pong!
Got a Du Bro Prop balancer to do the front wheels...problem solved.
Due to the cold weather, I dragged out the Ray Lamp to get the 'glass to go off - that's why the bench looks like a dark room!

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/4/2008 10:58 AM)

blocking it down now

savagecommander -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (6/4/2008 5:47 PM)

get some foam from home depot and make a mold, your finish will be spotless.

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (7/24/2008 12:18 PM)

My apologies, for not paying attention to the beast. Have to travel far and wide over this wide brown land these days....
"glassing is nearly done. Will update when possible. Thanks for looking

sam123 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (7/24/2008 12:41 PM)

Cant wait to see this beast go!

kenazzo2000 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (7/24/2008 6:10 PM)

hi nice work what size is the engine ? im the guy ho is building the turbine funny car hope you get it finished

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (7/25/2008 12:16 AM)

44cc Poulan saw motor

Bigmodman, if you're reading this, can you show/post the guys here what you found at the RC boat site for pipe designer?
a valuable tool, I thought.

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (10/6/2008 12:30 AM)

Well, I was doing more "glassing, and the weather turned cold....what to do when waiting a painful amount of time for the resin to go off?
Make the damn wheelie bar!!!
I need to get Traxxas whelels for the Revo/Jato wheelie bar to finish it off.

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (11/5/2008 8:39 AM)

That part's done

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (11/5/2008 8:46 AM)

Nutting out a wing now...Got some Carbon Fibre arrow shafts from an Archery store, Used 1/8 Buggy rod ends to hold the struts to the chassis.
Just a bit of 3/16" threaded rod - JB weld it in, and .....voila! A wing strut is made.

I have thin sheet alloy for the wing itself, and some old timber for the internal frame (something to stick the struts to)

sheograth -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (11/5/2008 10:53 AM)

Gorgeous, can't wait to see it finished.

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (11/9/2008 9:56 AM)

Had a little more time today, so I have the wing mostly made up in my head, so it's back to finishing up the body, so I can do the chassis final work (paint, clean - up, and tidy up the bare metal bits)

Lars from Norway -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (11/9/2008 2:59 PM)

This looks awesome![;)]Can you please take the wing out of your head?Hehe
