kenazzo2000 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/8/2009 11:43 AM)

mudgy can you give me the measurments of the wheelie bar please were going to build 2 dragsters me and my friend so that we can race each other . when do you think youll have a video of your dragster running ? thanks

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/8/2009 11:23 PM)

400 x 130 x 80mm

kenazzo2000 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/9/2009 5:52 AM)

thanks mudgy do you have any other rc cars ?

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/9/2009 10:21 AM)

Yeah, a few 1/10 nitro's, a 1/10 electric, a 1/8 Hyper 7 PBS, and a custom made Boat single hull plywood job. The motor in the boat is a OS 0.61 VR-M .. apparently these are discontinued, but I still have a new piston/sleeve/conrod for her. That's about all I own, but been working on all sorts over the years for other fellas.

kenazzo2000 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (2/12/2009 12:43 PM)

i hope we see a video of your dragster soon . my friend is going to put the turbine together today or tommorrow hope all goes well and we do some runs

Dirty_Vinylpusher -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (3/6/2009 10:42 PM)

Hey Mudgy.
Was watching some dragracing vids last night and thought of your car.

Please excuse my ignorance here.....[8|]
....but if you're just running a normal centrifugal clutch in this beautiful beast of yours, it'll be off to a rather slow start won't it?
I mean - looking at how a full scale dragster (or any car for that matter) works, you rev the guts out of it and then drop the clutch and it takes off at full revs.

Would it be possible to create something like this for an RC car?
Something hooked up to something hooked up to some pressureplate of some sort that would allow you to have the motor (and chains I suppose) to go at full pelt and then WHAMMO just kick the transmission in.
Would require some rather phat chains though, or probably a driveshaft perhaps.....

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (3/7/2009 4:39 AM)

Possible...but that's just too much stuffing around for my liking...I guess it may be slow on the take-up, maybe not. Smaller scales have no trouble hooking up.
Possibly I can muck with differing tensions on the clutch springs, like nitros do.
(I know this is largescale forum, but I get the feeling some can't tune a nitro, that's what makes them get frustrated/walk away from them & go to petrol)

After having watched your videos and pictures I don't think anything would be too much stuffing around for you....[;)]
Can't wait to see a vid of it tearing up some tarmac.
Any ideas when that might be happening?

I just watched a couple of 1/4 scale dragster vids on YouTube and they were surprisingly fast off the mark actually.[X(]

Yeah one of them was this one.
I saw your name in the comments section there.
So is that the nitro one?
The red one.

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (3/7/2009 10:47 AM)

Yeh mate, I know I like stuffing around...that's what the Man Shed is for, after all....
but the boys come 'round, we drink, and, you know, not much gets done.
But a lot of ideas get thrown at me (I know that's the p_$$ talking)

oops

I am super busy at work these days, too.....
makes time for the car very precious.
I know, one day, it will be on the black top. When, I really can't say.

All in all, your cars are great, fellas, and they inspire me to finish this one, and who knows?
I think my next creation could be a 4 stroke Bar Stool
or maybe 2 x scooters from the wreckage of the rail - if it all goes bad.[X(]

kenazzo2000 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (3/7/2009 11:18 AM)

yeah its that one it moves [X(]

mudgy you know how to weld . why didnt you make your wheelie bar out of round bars ? just asking

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (3/18/2009 10:21 PM)

It's already heavy enough. If I welded bars for this part, it would end up another 1.5 - 2 kg. This way, it's only 110 grams
and probably just as strong. The tie rods are stainless tube (tapped) axle is same, but I just shoved a 3/16" threaded rod through it.
To get the bearings to "sit" (in traxxas wheels) I just put a few small pieces of heat shrink on the threaded rod. Bodgy I know,
but it works.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

well your right i just asked because my friends told me i should have made one with round tubing thanks for all your help

kenazzo2000 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (3/24/2009 1:03 PM)

mudgy are your backwheels ? from the front or back of a go cart cause mine are from the front wheels of a go cart and only have one hole in the center for the shaft

Mudgy -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (4/6/2009 11:08 AM)

I'm having a hard time remembering...
I'm sure they are front wheels..from a junior kart.
I know the wheels you're talking about...front kart wheels do have bearings pressed in, where as rears have the 3 hub locator holes.
Maybe they're rear rims?

Can't remember.

Anyhow, I got the left side painted red today, so I started finishing the right side.
I have emailed the dimensions of my pipe to my mate who said he'd make me a titanium job, just waiting for all that to come through.

drewcrew6 -> RE: Quarter Scale Dragster (4/6/2009 1:35 PM)

Hey Mudgy

Looking real nice. Wish I had your patience for your build. Close to 2 years in this thread and you had a good jump then. Definetly worth the wait!!!!
