Hello gang, this is my 1st post here so please bear with me! I have a skyshark 109g kit and am about to start the build. I recently finished and put a few flights on my Aerotech p-47 razorback with the Brison 4.2 gasser and love everything about gas engines as opposed to glow. So back to skyshark-

I am kicking around powerplants for the kit, and was going to use either a ys91 or saito 100 that I have avail. Then I thought about going to gas and poss. using a Zenoah 20cc gasser or BME 90 (actually a supertigre 90 gas conversion). The Zenoah 20cc is the smallest gasser I know of. I noticed that a gasser will be considerably heavier than glow, and am vasillating about what engine to use. I tend to favor YS engines, but am so tired of the mess! I dont want electric either. I also plan on using a 3 blade prop. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Horrido!

I would use the YS 91. The Zenoah would take a lot of cutting to fit in the cowl. I used a Saito 100 in mine and has plenty of power.

I hear you. Im pretty sure a ys91 with a Slimline muff. will fit mostly inside the cowl too. I have that setup in my TF 190d9, and it has flown well for nearly 6 yrs now.

So after 4 hrs of time, I have assembled the rudder, elevators, ailerons, stab(sheeted and shaped), and spent about 1 hr. on the wing center section and part of right wing. Haupt. Marseille is keeping a watchful eye......

I've got an RCV 1.20 waiting to go in mine - will be totally enclosed and spin a nice big prop (even a big 3-blade!). Other than a bit of ducting work inside the cowl to aid cooling, it looks like it will fit nicely with no un-scale protruberances.

I HATE seeing rocker covers, mufflers and spark leads dangling out of the noses of warbirds! No offence anyone - practicality must come first I know.

Food for thought. Looking forward to this build - hopefully will get me motivated to get mine on the board.

Cheers,

Cam

Here is an update on the build-

So far I have completed the left outboard portion of the wing. There were a couple of parts of the build of that part that were somewhat vague, and required some re-reading of the instructions. But all in all, things are going well-albeit the pace has slowed a little. Here are a couple of pics.......

Cam,
Got a question for you. I have a Skyshark 109G waiting in the wings (so to speak). I am finishing up on my 1/6th 190D at the moment. I also have an RCV 1.20 that I plan on putting in my 190D. Because of the anular radiator in the front of the cowl, cooling for the RCV 1.20 should not be a problem if I ensure proper airflow out. With a 109, thats a different matter. I think its the perfect engine for it if there were some way to cool it but, I don't know how to approach it. How did you plan on providing proper airflow for it in your 109?

Hi

Just for the 109 fans.

Our all composite 49" span 109F.

Cooling. You have two points of intake, the oil cooler and the supercharger intake. to exit hot air, the back of the oil cooler. The trick is the fly on cool days and direct the air flow around your enigne.

Suggestion for the aileron servos.

DO NOT USE karbonite gears!! I have had three HS475HB servos fail in the gear train on this particular plane.

It really sucks when you are forced to land holding opposite rudder because an aileron servo jammed in a position other than neutral.

Steve, how did you do the "14" on your plane?

hey Check6ii,

I found that the FPE 21cc is just a hare more powerful than the G20, and is actually a lil' smaller.
I haven't been able to get my hands on the BME 90, but if you look at my SIG P-51B ARF thread, I've got the FPE mounted in there.

Keep us posted...I've wanted to build this 109 with a gasser too.

An ST .75 2 stroke does a nice job the plane I've found. Nice flying airplane, and a great plane to build. The ailerons and flaps won't match up at the joint b/n them because of the washout in the wing. Don't worry about it, doesn't affect flying traits whatsoever.

WHOA! The BME 90 SuperTigre puts out a whopping 2.7 h.p.!!!!!!! Thats waaaaaay to much for the Skyshark 109G isnt it? I looked up the FPE and its expensive, but since its smaller than the Zenoah, its a better fit I think.

What do you think? Im leaning toward the FPE

I finished sheeting the wing this a.m.
