I recently picked up a Dynaflite Spitfire which on the surface appeared to have only some stab damage, flipped over in a corn field ( I didn't ask and he didn't say why).

I decided that a recovering was in order and proceeded to strip it down. In doing so I've discovered that the engine compartment was never sealed and it has a fair amount of fuel in the balsa. Wondering if anyone is familiar with a chemical known as RTR, not sure on the the spelling? I've tried the search mode and can't find it there. The RTR is reported to be either good at pulling out the fuel from the balsa or neutralizing it.

If you know of other successful means of treating this problem, please post up.

Thanks,

Mike

The product is K2R Spot Remover. Search on that, and you'll find lots of info.

Put the nose in a bucket and cover rthe affected area with CAT LITTER ! Take it out in a day or two and it will be dry as a bone ! I get my litter at the "Dollar Store" for a buck for three pounds ! It works!

I have used carpet shampoo-the kind that is in the aerosol can and foams, it will lift the fuel out of balsa, the cat litter idea sounds great too.

you can also use a heat gun and heat it up really good and then drop it in the bucket of cat litter to speed up the process i did this over and over for about 2 hours on a plane and it worked good then i used balsa rite to seal it up good, the heat gun will actually pool the oil up on the surface for a couple seconds and it helps to use ground up cat litter or floor dry

Anyone ever try brake cleaner? It removes grease & brake fluid from brake shoes/pads, dont see why it wouldnt work for fuel.

Kitty litter is the same as "floor dry" found at any automotive supply store, without the extra cost of perfume. It works best if it is ground up into a finer powder, as this gives it a greater surface area and it makes better contact with the wood. As pointed out above, heat helps to drive out the oil by lowering it's viscosity.

hi after getting out the fuel-with k2r-or cat litter--coat the surface with aerogloss-clear dope-to fuel proof the surface-doing that for years -works real good===tony==
