I just started installing a couple 5245's in the tail of my Bates Hellcat for the elevator halves. They both work fine when plugged in to a receiver, however, the output arm on one of them only turns in one direction when it is unplugged and you try to turn in by hand. When unplugged, it turns nicely by hand in the clockwise direction, but won't turn at all in the counter-clockwise direction. I'm very concerned that the servo might bind in flight with the elevator fully up or down...bye bye Hellcat!

Since I am building this servo right into the tail, and sheeting over it, it will be difficult to get at soon, thus I want to resolve this problem asap so I can finish sheeting the tail of the plane. Should I buy a new 5245 right now to install so I can keep building?

Thanks for your Help.

Andris.

Hello Andris,

It sounds like there is something wrong with the servo. I would suggest sending the servo in for service to have it checked out at no charge. Below is a link for the service form. Please fill this out and return it with the servo.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Hitec Rocks! Shame I'm going to have a spare 5245 when I get my original back from Hitec...I already ordered a replacement to keep the project moving along.

Also, note that these servos will be hard to turn when there are brand new. It may take a couple of flight to seat, or wear them in but they'll loosen up. The servo may not be bad at all, just when there new there hard to turn. You may also test in a power up condition, slightly hold the servo and use your radio to move through the duration by holding and feeling the servo out..... Just an added test before you send them in.
