Hi all!

I am considering a RCV SP 120 or an RCV SP 90 for a 72 inch warbird estimated finished weight will be 10 - 10.5 lbs

Has any one done any tests on static thrust on these engines?

Any information apreciated.

Hi

We have tested a SP90 which will give a static thrust of around 8-8.5 lbs. These tests were carried out using a 18 x 12 two bladed APC prop. A SP120 would be slightly too large for this application.

I hope this helps.

Best regards

Stephanie

Thanks Stephanie!

Since I am looking for a 1:1 (Or there abouts) Thrust to weight ratio the 120 with a 3 blade prop should workout great (Scale size is close to 15 inch 3 blade) . The IL-2 I am building will cary external dumy "Drop bombs" so the additional thrust should be handy!

This is good information.
Do you have any similar information regarding performance with a 3-blade propellor?

I used a 3 Blade prop APC it was 15.75x13 pitch and the thrust was 9 - 9.5 lbs @ 5800 RPM .......... not enough to fly the IL2 (Came out at 11.5 lb) runway is not long enough.

I then used a 18x12 2blade and the thrust was 9 lbs but the speed was just enough for take off ..........

Hope this helps

I have never measured the static thrust of my 120SP, but I have been flying my CMP Zero (71" span, 13 lbs) for over a year with it.

It pulls it around great. I've used the 15.75 x 13, 3 blade which turns about 4800-5000 and a 17x13 2 blade which spins a smidge faster.

It pulls this heavy thing around at well over scale speed, and has plenty of power for big loops. I usually use the 2 blade as they are cheaper, but the 3 blade flew it the same.
