Can anyone tell me what the order of progression is for the YS120? I have an old FS with very little time on it that I plan to put in a MW Stearman. I believe this was the first YS-120, and I've heard they run well but the transition isn't real good. I also have a NC that needs some TLC, or should I say PRL(Piston, Ring, & Liner). Did the NC come before the SC or after? What's the difference between the two? Does the NC have any bad habbits? I know the AC was the Air Chamber version, and the FZ is the latest version. I guess I'm just trying to find out if it's worth overhauling the NC or if I should be looking for a new engine.

Thanks

FS, then AC, then SC and NC, and finally FZ.

FS can transition very well, mine does.

SC vs. NC- SC has higher compression and an air chamber incorporated into the valve cover area. Also SC has an idle mixture needle. Valves and cam are the same.

NC is a very good engine, it is essentially a large valve SF. One option for you is to bolt the NC head onto the SF. It gave mine a 600 rpm increase with no other changes.

Have fun!
