Hey, just a little caution to those who have built the KatanaMD. Awesome plane and build, but my pull/pull servo arm broke out on one side during flight. No worries since it's pretty easy to land w/o the rudder, given it didnt stick to one side with a lot of force. Just keep a close eye on the integrity of the carbon/fiber control parts for weakness that's all. Because of my constant radical use of the rudder lately, I went with the nylon horn for the pull/pull and sleeping alot better.

there is some offset built into the cf double arm (pull pull) replacing this with a straight unit is said to be detrimental to performance.

That being said i have been running straight nylon since the very beginning mostly because i can optimize arm length so that full deflection = maximum over-atv. This maximizes torque and resolution.

What kind of receiver are you running guys? I fly JR and is this one too small for the Katana?

I am sorry to report that my Katana MD lasted only 4 flights...

I made two mistakes:
1) ignored a poor range check (getting glitches at about 20 paces) but I thought I wouldn't fly very far..
2) ignored the instructions to route the antenna across the wing - i ran it down the fuse.

I was using a Berg 7 and got radio lockout when up high in a flat spin. It spun into the ground. The cost of this ARF makes that a hard one to swallow. I'm not sure I will be replacing it until I go to 2.4ghz.

I just didn't see how to route the antenna down the wing when the wings are removable. I would have to either tape it down everytime or cut the antenna and use a bullet connector or something - neither were a good option IMHO.
But I paid the ultimate price for my lazyness and lack of good judgment.

Hi Jeff

Very sorry to hear about your KMD, I must admit I found the antenna placement under the
wing to be a serious nusiance and opted to run it below the fuse. To date I have not experienced any noticable radio hits, and my range check was within acceptable limits.
I'm using a FMA Direct Encore reciever, I just looked at the berg 7 specs on the Inet
and it is definitely a top notch unit. Can't say why you experienced such a serious problem.
Hope you won't give up on the KMD it is truly an awesome aircraft.

Guys, i use an old electron 7. The little weight difference has no effect to me. Flies great. I have mine running in the fuse. I like a clean look. I have it exiting the fuse with 1/2 tail hotglued. Also hotglue throught the fuse with dots of hot glue to keep it away from the pull pull string. Not one problem in 80 flights. I like to have the ability to fly high as a dot if i feel the urge. Never had a glitch. Channel 34.

I am flying my Katana MD with a Berg RX and ran the antenna through the fuse and have had not a single glitch at all. The Berg is supposed to be a full range RX so I dont think one would have to do the under the wing trick, I feel that was probably suggested more for the shorter range RX's.
Sorry to hear of the demise of your Katana...

I have 3 berg 7p's 2 with vertical pins and one with horisontal pins. My first Katana MD had countless flights on it and i had never seen a glitch on it's vertical pinned 7P until it "died" in flight destroying my beloved MD (you can see images of the wreckage at the end of my last video)

Another one proving Murphy was right; whatever can go wrong...

Scoubidou; your link points to a shopping cart that was a temporary link; we can't see the item you had selected, to us it's just a message telling us our shopping cart at horizon hobby is empty. Just tell us the model number so we can share our views on it.

There is no such thing as too small though; just range... a berg microstamp 4L weighing less than 4 grams would be more than enough range for the Katana MD even with a shortened antenna (you do need 6ch for mixing so i won't recomend the 4L in the MD, i am just making a point)

i think it will be ok.
but you need to have a rang check after the plane is done.
you can read few pages back that i changed my Receiver to Berg 7P 7Ch after i did a rang check.

Scoob, i have never used that rx and i can't find any info on it's actual range, i did see someone post about using it in a sailplane about as far as he could see it. If it range checks in the MD i'd go ahead and use it.
