The kansas wind!!!!!!!! , but my biggest beef is r/c clubs, i hate them,i hate them, i hate them, clubs over complicate things, make to many stupid rules, attract d-heads,clubs to me are a group of people who couldnt get into real airplanes so they make all the rules apply to the model airplanes. I put up with enough @ the work place m-f and the last thing i want to do is head to the flying field and have a bunch more rules and regulations to follow,i want to fly my airplane and have fun, granted i do take precautions not to fly over people or vehicles but im there to have fun. My bad experiance in a club was back in the early 90's when we had a guy steal several things out of our flight box and stole money out of the membership fund and everybody knew he was doing this stuff but the pres felt sorry for him so he got away with it..........this is just one of many stories i could tell. So now my dad and i and a half dozen others fly @ a nice little grass airstrip,no club,no rules other than use common since, just a group of friends having fun.......THATS HOW IT SHOULD BE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loud mouth schnooks!

I started this hobby 35 years ago and there is a guy at the local RC club who is still the reason that I haven't joined them!
I fly alone. I've met some nice guys at the club but they all still mention the same idiot and apparently his son who didn't fall far from the tree

Everything else in the hobby is good! Same complaints as some of the others, time, wife...lol

ya our old club had several of those types of guys

maybe all the guys from the our old air club set up shop in your area L.O.L, iv got to add one more thing on my club rant (btw i thank whoever revived this thread cuz iv had this built up sometime) anyhoo one of the guys who started flying with us is the president of a nearby air club & he showed up a couple of weeks ago cussing his club up & down & up again, to make a long story short we bbq'd, threw back a couple cool one's (not to many)& flew the sh$t out of planes,& at the end of the day he couldnt believe the difference people made, he said that was the best day of flying he had ever had,no politics, no saftey nazi's,no noise nazi's,no ama rule book crap, just friends out flying and good conversation, the moral of me writing this is if there's anybody in a club dont put up with any crap from neo-nazi club members, life is to short!!!!!!!. Our little group i fly with are ex club members or newbies and our joke now is we are a club and we named it,........ the secret air club for men

Loud mouthed know-it-alls.

People who's agenda is making a club meeting last as long as possible by talking some minor issue to death. This is usually the guy who never flies anymore.

Snobs of any kind, big bird, sailplane, electric, jet, etc.

Giant scale flyers who talk about how affordable the hobby used to be (as if you can't still buy .40 glow engines and basic 4-channel radios).

OLD guys that assume the younger generation is clueless.
Hobby shop personnel that assume their customers are clueless.

By r/c genre:
Car guys... Sorry, your Traxxas car does not do 70MPH out of the box. Your .21 does not make 5HP. Also, changing pipes and fuel tubing is NOT a MOD.

Boat guys... I don't care that my boat is overpowered and doesn't fit into an appropriate class. I don't care if you think CMB engines are over-priced. I don't care about what you used to run when you were my age. Go away and let me do my thing, please.

Plane guys... Arrogant, cocky know-it-alls that think they were born with some inherent gift to control a model aircraft. Guys that think knowledge is based on the sum of money spent. Guys that unload a trailer at the field and don't even fuel up... just socialize and stand by their models and snicker at newbies.

Helicopter guys... I don't fly heli's (yet) but these are typically the more knowledgeable, friendly and helpful bunch... from my experiences.

SPECTATORS... No, you can't fly it. No, you can't drive it. Don't ask me what it costs because you won't believe me anyway.

Gee,

You don't like plane guys, boat guys, car guys or old guys, Exactly who does not whizz you off? I suppose that I can assume that you are a young guy who is not clueless. You probably don't go the a hobby shop any longer, cause some clown ticked you off, by assuming that you didn't have much knowledge.

We Old Plane Guys are not all arrogant, nor are we all cocky, and even though we tend to spend a lot of money, not all of us unload the trailer and shoot the bull all day. Some of us actually fly what we brought to the field. Socializing, however is a time-honored part of the hobby.

Might I suggest that an occasional look in the mirror might prove beneficial before you show up at the flying field with your attitude intact. Show up with an open mind, and you might just make a couple of lifelong friends. We old farts have been there and done that, and don't have a freaking thing left to prove. We just enjoy the hobby, and that means tolerating what other people over whom you have absolutely zero control.

It's a hobby. Have fun with it.

Electrics too, but I try not to be a snob about it. I don't put down glow and giant scale. Electrics, not big birds probably have the biggest snob following, a factor that made me resist going to electric for a long time.
I've got no issues with giant scale and turbine flyers, as long as they don't have the "when are you going to get a real plane?" attitude.

I think that everyone is a snob to one degree or another. We all want to be convinced that our way is the best way. So when we see someone using something that is 180 degrees out from that which we use, it is normal to question their way. The problem arises when we verbalize the questioning, rather than keeping our counsel and our thoughts to ourselves.

It probably has a lot to do with the investment (if you can call it that) that is in the model/s. No one wants to think or be told that he has done something stupid. Being old does not mean that we have forgotten how. You don't see too many kids competing at the Scalemasters, or at Top Gun. Experience does count for something.
