How big are the fuel tanks for this F16? If I put a P80, can I get about 6 to 7 minutes of flight time at 60% to 70% average throttle setting?

Mike

Hello,

How is the landing gear? Is it well engineered and stout? How heavy is the plane dry? How many OZ. of fuel? Is it stable in the air? My Cemark F-16 at times has dutch roll issues in flight. Sorry for all the questions, but I am thinking about buying one. Mike I do not think you will be able to get a P-80 in the plane. You may be better off trying to trade it for a P-70 or super sport. I just thought of something, there is a guy that just recently put a P-120 into a tam jet F-16. The planes I think are very similar if not the same in size.

Thanks,

Rick

Hi lassi,

Thanks for photos and control info.

I see you are using Yang’s recommended deflections on all but the rudder. Yang recommends 20mm and you’re using 13mm. Have you found the 13mm deflection sufficient to achieve a reasonable knife-edge?

Also you have the c of g at 160mm back and have the missile/tank pylons fixed in place. Have you flown with all missiles and tanks attached? How did it behave? Reason for asking is that Yang recommends a c of g at 170mm without missiles and a c of g at 150mm with missiles.

Kind regards,
Eric

Hi Lasse!

Thanks for a great wekend at Laxå! Your F16 flies great, amazing power and stability in the plane, just like in the 1:6 version I am flying.
One of the guys from Sweden filmed an entire flight with my SM F16 1:6 - do you know who he was? I think he might have been from
Hawk or the Swedish SM-dealer

Best regards,

Hey, curious from guys who have flown tihs plane or have seen one fly. How do you think a Ram 500 at 13lbs will push one of these with and without the external stores? Also am I understanding you guys says the 1/8th has 1.3liters of fuel or 2.6 total?? Also, how does the rudder linkage work, will it hold up to highspeed knife-edges?

Thanks

Dante at Camlex it the most wonderful guy in R/C. I mean it. I have never done business with anyone more dedicated to Making sure that
the process of buying your Jet thru Following up With PHONE Calls on the Progress, thru Delivery. You will never find a better Person than Dante.
I did everything I could do to get him to Open a full blown Jet Shop. But He just enjoys the Hobby and Making people happy.
The Jet Community is Very Small. and I have had good service from Everyone.
Now I just wish I had More Money.....

Yep; I just can't say enough....

Lars just a question out of curiosity.. what did you use to hinge your gear doors?

Also does the main gear get hot been right under the turbine? Are the air lines ok where they are?

Cheers

Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy,
excuse the big delay!
I use Dubro heavy duty nylon hinges (removable cotter pins No 257) for main gear doors and the same for Nose gear doors.

Hi Eric, have you maidened your F-16 yet?

Hi Barry, sorry its been so long!

Impatience got the better of me and I choose a really murky weather day for the first flight – mistake!
The F16 was excitingly fast and highly manoverable. In the poor visibility conditions this led me into a situation where I was just a little too far out in the circuit and became disoriented. The end result, after some interesting “recovery aerobatics”, was a damaged undercarriage as I landed in the long grass off field.

Lessons learned: - Don’t first flight your first grey aeroplane against a grey sky. Also the c of g at 170 mm back from the leading edge is too far back, especially for the maiden flight.

With great support from Yang of JL and the UK JL agent Jeff Sewell I had a brand new undercarriage fitted and on the flight line in just three weeks.

With the previous, all but brief, flight experience of the first flight I decided to set the c of g well forward at 150 mm instead of the 170 mm initially set. Lasse Palm has reported success at 160 mm, so the worst I foresaw was that I wouldn’t be able to get airborne with the available elevator movement.
I needn’t have been concerned as take off was smooth and predictable. In fact all four flights were solid and comfortable throughout. With the undercarriage down for all four flights I would describe the speed as comfortably fast. Landings were worry free, the 40mm elevator movement giving great authority for flare-out even with the forward c of g.

As you can see from the photo I’d fitted the wing tip missiles… just because I think they look great!
The missiles and their respective pylons (total of 900g –32oz unpainted) when fitted are all aft of the c of g so they will move the c of g rearwards somewhat. I plan to slowly add the pylons in pairs and then the missiles in pairs with an assessment of overall effect on flight characteristics after each addition. This increase in all up weight is considerable so a compromise may be in order, in that I may just fit the missiles and leave off the drop tanks.

Anyway, enough of my rambling…

Eric

Hi Eric,
First commiserations.....and now congratulations on the successful flight!

Pics look good, does it seem to fly as good as it looks? Look forwards to the conclusions in the next RCJI too.

Thanks Barry.

It’s definitely good to fly so far. I’m very hopeful that all will be well as I get to know it better.

It will look even better if I can get round to do any detailing like Lasse has done.

Few more photo’s-
In the start-up box photo, note John Wrights DH Swallow (Pilot Dave Wilde) on its take off run.
