Guys, I used a JR-9411 for the rudder and it barely fits, had to grind some material off of the support bracket. Use that as a reference.
Man can't wait to fly mine!

Guys,
I would like to know if anyone is using flap for landing?

Regards
Asif

I used the ailerons as flaps & the elevator as elevons. I found that flaps did not help the landings, in fact they made it more awkward. It lands easily without flaps. I still have the flap/elevon setup, but do not use the flaps.
One point to watch. I did not like the rudder control setup. I had bad rudder flutter on mine & could not fix it. I ended up removing the servo & glueing the rudder in a fixed position. The JL L39 uses the same type of control & a friend at our club had flutter & lost the rudder on his. Some alternative control is required.

Can't do that here in the US. Rudder is required

An alternative pull pull wire setup would be better.

Jascat100,
Thanks for your reply. Basically you have servos in the wing that are not being used as neither aileron nor flaps? If you have fixed you rudder, how do you combat cross wind? I used my rudder in cross wind. Is there an alternate to rudder mechanism?
I want to stick with concealed control throws, I will want to avoid pull pull, simply because of aesthetic looks.

Asif

The rudder linkeage is similar to that of Tam's F-16. It works pretty good. The flutter must have been casued by the control pin not being properly lined up or not enough contact. Or........big gap between rudder and fin.

You can do a pull-pull internally. Stick an auminum .25 rod at the rudder leading edge. The rod should extedn down all teh way to just above the tailpipe inside the fuselage. You will have to drill a .25 hole for the rod to pass trough. Once the rod is inside the fuselage just be creative and make the pull-pull.

I made a longer pin and used a METAL ARM. The new pin sticks 3/8 of an inch deeper than the stock pin.

Can anyone suggest what JR servos will fit in this plane?

I've got lots of 8411 and 8611A's laying around.

I know the wings are thin

I don't fly any other type servo so please don't suggest other brands

I then suggest you go for an Avonds or a Yellow Aircraft!

I have 8717's (freaking lightning fast!) on elevators. Had to trim the bracket some to make them fit. 8411 on rudder.

And as for the ailerons, go get an Avonds or a Tam !!

So are you saying that no JR servo will fit in the wing? Tell me it ain't so!!!!

what is an 8717 and 9411 from your posts #101 and #113?

Did you actually mean 8711 and 8411? Or are these the foreign versions?

Ok, so for the wings what servo is fitting? And does anyone happen to have the dimensions of the servo along with speed/torque

I'm not buying another jet so I'll have to do some searching (and soul searching) to find something or mod the plane to fit.

I could only fit an HS-5125's (thin wing). There seems to be a JR foreign servo that WILL fit. It's on an issue of Jet Mag. I'll try to find out for you.

JR8717 is the fastest servo so far I know of. .05 sec at 150 oz-in. Perfect for Elevators!! it is a little bit larger than an 8611. 8611 should fit almost perfect.

Here is what I found so far

JR

DS168 Digital Thin Wing MG Servo Specs
Torque: 47oz @ 4.8V ; 53oz @ 6.0V
Speed: .17sec/60° @ 4.8V; .14sec/60° @6.0V
Dimensions (WxLxH): 0.34 x 1.33 x 1.18 in Weight: .7 oz
Bearing: Dual
Motor Type: Cored
Gears: Brass, Alloy, and Plastic combo
Deadband: less than 1us

Hitec

HS5125MG Digital Super Slim Wing Servo
Motor Type: 3 Pole Ferrite
Bearing Type: Dual Ball Bearing
Speed: 0.17 / 0.13 sec @ 60 deg.
English Metric
Torque: 41.66 / 48.60 oz.in (4.8v/6v) 3.0 / 3.5 kg.cm
Size: 1.18" x 0.39" x 1.33" 30.00 x 10.00 x 34.00mm
Weight: 0.84oz 24.00g

This JR servo appears to be very close. (infact smaller)

JR Hitec
53oz Torque 48oz Torque
.14speed .13speed
1.18x.34x1.33 1.18x.39x1.33

so if your Hitec is fitting than this one should as well (I hope)

Found it, sorry bro, thought it was JR. They used an S3150 (Futaba). I thought S was for foreign versions. That's how much Futaba I know.

Yes your shall fit. The 5125 is a comfortable fit.

I also purchased this from Dreamworks (Saves you 3 servos and 3 valves):

I saw that.........was thinking about it very closely. I'm going to order up the JR wing servos and use 8611A's on the other surfaces

Hi Lasse,

Really nice looking photos.

How did you set up the background? Looks like a studio quality photo.

The golden canopy looks really nice. Could you tell me how to do that, please?

Thanks,

Mike

I'm going to do the plumbing tonight so I can test the EV5U. I can tell you this, it will make the setup simpler, but you will not save weight. The valve weighs at least tas much as 3 mini servos and 3 small independent air valves put together.

If there are no signs of a Rabbit soon, I will test fly mine with my P-70. I cn't wait any longer!

David
