Status: offline 		Not a law but my OS 10 conversion with a full lenght exhaust flew at the electric site here in fact quieter than some of the electrics well accepted and was asked wheb are you coming back?? martin flew it there till its demise when a wing spar broke on the little cub

Status: online 		Tossed the Mercury to the wind (way to much wind) on saturday at the Dieselfest Treven and I had at Alameda - after serious debating. Damn the torpedos and tossed her out. The wind took her pitch up and immediatly behind me like a leaf. After an unnerving moment and a lot of down elevator was able to fly smartly against the wind and around a few circuits and set her down - That definatly stress tested the airframe. Wiped her off and put her away - happy to survive my lapse of judgement! I guess the minor reinforcement of the horizontal stab paid off.

Sunday morning early came up and not so much as a mouse fart for wind! Father's Day Morning and no wind? I'm flying the Mercury!
Not wanting to drive to Alameda I decided to go down to Pacifica Muscle Rock along the coast, and take advantage of the grass and iceplant for any miss-adventures. Muscle Rock is a slope site known as "The Dump".

A delightful solitary morning - Man and his Mercury!

Hand launched and the motor really powers it around. Pitches up a bunch w/ full throttle, may adjust thrust angle a bit. She climbs like a rocket and if I keep throttle in and some down elevator she just hauls booty! I love the combination of the 6x4 pb prop and a throttle!

I specked her out and had to force it down, before loosing orientation.

This is not "Your Daddy's Mercury"!

Then some 6minutes into the flight, the engine sips it last fume and expires and the 8oz airframe just floats effortlessly, catching a light slope lift breeze and the flight eventually terminates by ditching into the tall grass.

Refuel and repeat!

The little plane is just getting better.
I keep taking my camera out to the field for some in flight photos - but either I'm alone or every one has a plane in the air- or it is a bit to windy for her.
Had her out Saturday morning and a very nice flight. The little engine is very easy to tune and quite easy handleing. The engine will power a substantially larger model but it gives me very spirited performance and great glide potential due to the low weight and wing loading of the plane.

Earlier I think I mentioned a 6 minute run time on a bowl of fuel but think I may have overstated it a bit - perhaps 4.5 -5 minutes is more realistic - must have lost count of my minutes before.

Status: online 		Had the PB Mercury out this weekend. Had a friend shoot some aerials - but have to introduce him to the zoom controls

I was able to crop and enlarge the plane within the photos but really need to get some more.

Status: online 		Flew The pb Mercury last weekend at Moffet Field (NASA AMES) and had a delightful time. Sorry no photos as I don't think security is to keen about cameras on the facility.
Really specked out and was in fear of a flyaway. One of my longest flights to date.
This thing is really getting some cycles on it.
I'm surprised the lite foam wheels have not deteriorated under the fuel exposure.

Peter should give you a kickback: after stalling for years I finally took the plunge and ordered my own PB .33!

I am thinking, maybe, a BMJR Simplex...

Congratulations on your new engine - you won't be disappointed.
Peter has really created an exceptional gentlemen's class engine here.
No kickbacks requested but exceptional service beyond the sale is provided! And did I mention the availability of spares?
This engine is one of the best kept secrets in small diesels!

I would greatly enjoy flying with you and seeing your collection, We should invite chevy43 and skalliwag.
I was flying turbines yesterday out your way at New Jerusalem in Tracy and drive to the valley (Modesto-Merced) to check a project every tuesday.
I'm not familiar with the simplex but will google it. This engine will fly a much larger plane than mine but I really like the spirited performance I am getting and the burble at idle is like music.

Checked out the Simplex. it looks like a suitable model but I'm really partial to Cabin Class oldtimers - it needs windows
I think the challenge with this engine is choosing/building an airframe that is as elegant as the engine.

Originally I wanted to scale down an AirTrails Sportster due to the sleek sexy cowl and fuse (you see the fuse and cabin in photos). Never having seen one in person I did not notice the rather planejane "Hershey Bar" type wing and once off the ground and overhead the wing and tail outline is what is visable.

The Lancer was another of my favorites but it requires a cowled inverted engine and this engine is much to pretty to hide away
