I have one question, I have a spot on 50 and a groovy 50 both of wich a like and I was considering a bigger model like the spot on 120. What I want to know is if you think the spot on 120 would be able to handle a MLD 28 gas engine, is 4 oz heavier that the ys 140 wich can easly be compensated with a smaller fuel tank. Power wise I'll venture to say it will have more than enogh.

My Spot-On 120 with the YS 140L is already nose heavy, I will suggest not to use the MLD if you can. In addition, they also have the 110 version available.

Did you ever post a flight report from your 2nd Spot On 120 build with following equipment (3/29/09 post):

Engine: YS 110 FZ
Prop: APC 15x11
Header: Hatori # 726
Pipe: Hatori # 725
Pipe Mount: Nishioka
Rx: Futaba R6008HS - A brand new rx from Futaba I have just received from my team mates. Similar to the 608FS, but this one has a high speed mode. When you are on HS, response time cuts down from 14 ms to 7 ms, scary

Thr: S9650
Battery: 4 cell, 1,500 mAh ni-cd

I never did post a flight report on my second Spot-On since it is similar to the first one, it is a very capable plane for up to the Advanced class. I have never try the Masters sequence, so I can not comment on that. As for FAI, it's definitely doable, but tall vertical maneuvers are limited by the engine size.

One of the strongest point of the plane is the snapping and rolling maneuvers, very clean.

My main sticking point at the moment is engine choice.  The YS FZ110 is no longer available from Central Hobbies.  The YS FZ115-S replacing it is not yet available (few months yet per Central).  YS 140 Sport is an option but perhaps too much engine for slightly smaller Spot On 120R (version 2).  Choices I am considering are as follows:

I have been flying for 3 yrs.  Have been 'messing' with pattern for close to a year.  Decided to get structured and focused over last 3 months and dove in.  Am practing Sportsman sequence now (simulator + MiniLeader electric aero trainer) and intend to be there for some time.

OS 120 & YS 140 Sport are too heavy, and the 140 is also overkilled. I have never used a Saito before, so I'm not going to comment. I've always been a YS person, therefore, I'm partial to it. I don't know when the 115 will be available, you may want to contact Richard Verano at YS Parts & Service - the US importer for info. If you can wait, I think it's worth it. Otherwise, it will not be a bad idea to get a 110FZ through either private party or ebay.

If you want to start building right away, and can not wait for the 115, or, able to locate a 110, you may also want to consider the OS 120AX. I have seen a few operate, seems like a very nice engine.

Status: offline 		I have been running a Saito 100 on an UltraStick 60 (~6.5 lb) for last year and it is quite excellent.  Easy to start, easy to maintain, have had no problems (110 deg F humid to 30 deg F dry conditions), and have unlimited vertical.  Many other Saito believers in my club as well.  Very high power to weight ratio.  I am building now but will hold off on decision on the engine for a little while.  I will contact the individual you provided regarding the YS 115.

I have been practicing the Sportsman sequence with the 50 size version of the Spot On and I love it, but I like to compete and I think the 120 version is much better for that. I will use an OS 120 Ax (I'm in a budget here) and I have seen also the Groovy 90, that is 140.00 less and almost the same size. Since you already had a Groovy 90 Do you really think that the Spot On 120 is worth the extra 140.00?

Yes, I do think the Spot-On is a better plane, it snaps & roll better than the Groovy. It is capable from Sportsman through the Advanced sequence.

I will suggest the R which is the 110 version over the original one, since it has all of the modification. The OS 120 AX is a good engine, & will be more than capable to power this plane.

Can someone tell me if the following servos would be ok for the Spot On 120:
Futaba S9001 for ail, Hitec 5485 for rudder and Hitec 485 for elevator.
My question is mostly if the torque of the servos would be sufficient for Spot On 120?

Hi finally I have my Spot On 110 flying. Is a beatiful machine, it flies perfect, the ponit rolls are a beauty, the slow roll is amazing, my only problem is the uplines: When the fuel tank is below one third the engine (120AX) loses power, due I'm not a YS person (I have old issues in my heart about YS) I'm thinking on using the DLE 20, is the same weight, power and size. I will be practicing the sportsman sequence.

Your engine might be lean.

The OS120AX is sensitive to overheating.

You may need to run a little rich when using the cowl.

Glad to know you like the plane.

As for losing power on upline, it could be too lean. Or, not drawing enough fuel. Have you try installing a foam clunk in the tank? It may solve the problem.

I have ordered myself a Spot On 120R to replace my CMPro Swallow EX 90. I want to power it with a SAito 150(H) which is essentially a bored out 1.20.
Does anyoone have experience with this engine in this application?
IS there a performance muffler available for the Saito?

I will be useing Hyperion  DS-20 UMD throughout. If I can find another FMD I 'll use tow of thoe on the ailerons

Do you foreee any pitfalls Riot 3D?

Status: offline 		Spot on 120R arrived yesterday. I was not too impressed with the covering and I may recover certan areas like the elevator feathers. Clours are great though.

Collected my DLE 20 from my DLE agent today. Darn this is a lightweight piece of kit at 859gr including spark plug, muffler and DLE ignition unit and all bolts and gaskets.
Also the rear elevator tube in the fuselage was bonded in skew at the factory. So it looks like I'll be taking some corrective measures before I can sink my teeth into the build.

What stuck me was the lack of weight this ARF has. The wing was already built ex factory. Nice touch.

Since I have had no experience on the motor or the servos, I will not comment on either.

I agree on the covering part. Especially, on those sharp edges, I've already reflected such concern to Airborne Models.

Be careful on the weight of the DLE, so it won't be too tail heavy ...

Are you referring to the two white tubing? I believe they are sleeves for the rudder cable? Since they have changed the ele push rod on the 110 size R version to the wooden dowel type. Unless, you either have the older 120 version or World have change it back to the old metal type push rod.

Status: offline 		hi Adrian,The rear stabs fit onto a glass tube that runs through the width of the rear fuselage. Its so skew I have to cut the tube out and rebond it back in the fuselage straight. Not impressed but will take it up with the local distributors since the manual indicates there is a warranty on defective workmanship and this is most definately a factory fault .

Is the DLE too heavy or too light? I figured 860gr was within the ball park. If I need more weight I can add a separate ignition battery. Probably will anyway.

Status: online 		Sorry to hear you had issues with the stab tube. In my last club we had a couple of World Models reps, and they (the reps and company) really seemed proud of their products and stood behind them. I was impressed with everything I've seen, especially for the value; some really straight tracking and nimble airframes.

As for a light motor - it's always easier to add weight then to try to remove it! It would have to be an obscene difference in weight for me to ward off a motor because it was to light. I've worked very hard to find motors for my plane that were on the lighter side of the scale, which has afforded me luxuries elsewhere in the plane.
