hi ,

i'm thinking of getting the 92" edge hybrid for my DA50. will a single 5945 be ok for the aileron?
also, what is the RTF weight people are getting with the DA50.

for OMP
i also need the dimensions and the weight of the box for the 92" edge.

thanks

The box is 49" x 13" x 6" and weighs probably about 12 lbs. You will need at least 200 oz for each aileron as these are huge. We have recommended two servos of at least 100 oz each per wing however with the advent of the new super strong servos, many have built the Hybrid with only one servo per wing. Still though you will need more torque than a single 5945 for best performance. We had two Hybrids with DA 50s both at 16 1/4 and 16 1/2 lbs.

i was about to get some servos and thought i would ask....... is it better to put 2 HS 5945's or 1 HS 5955 on the aileron? if i use 1 servo...... do i need to do any mods to the wing? or could i use one of the two servo bays?
if it's 2 servos....... will i be able to do all the servo matching with my TX ( Futaba 9 CAP ).
i already have 4 5945's and 1 5955. i'm using the 5955 on the rudder and i could ether use 4 5945's on the wing and get 2 5955 for the elevators, or get 2 5955 for the wing and leave the 2 5945's on the elevator.

just a thought.........if i use 2 servos instead of 4 on the wing...... i save about 4oz's and if i don't use a choke servo then it's another 2 more.
thats a saving of about 6oz's which is not bad.

thanks

That's a popular question asked and when the Hybrid was designed we didn't have these monster torque servos. You really need minimum 200 oz torque on the ailerons so you can use two or one as long as you get the min torque. The plan shows two servo bays and to use only one, just build the servo bay in the middle of the wing. The construction is standardized so it can be applied to any wing bay. Pick the center wing bay for one servo.

Oh, and one caution: If you use one servo, remember all the loads are now on that one location versus two so even though the mega servo can handle it, you need to make sure the structure can. Make all glue joints perfect and sheet both top and bottom of that servo bay.

Mike. Do you recall how you ran your choke with the DA50?

Pushrod running either up or down through the cowl. If I recall it has to be angled towards the front to get the geometry right. Don't have my Hybrid anymore as it got totalled. John Drakes though is set up that way as well if I recall.

hi mike,

i've seem to have lost the paper wing tube and need a get a new one from you. is it possible to cut it in half and send it across since the whole tube might be to long for USPS.
it has to be shipped to india.
please tell me how to make the necessary arrangements to get the paper wing tube. ( i don't need the aluminum wing tube )

on another note.......... when rounding the leading edge of the stab, should i also shape the side and back of the elevator? would it be the same for the fin and the rudder ?

thanks

Yes we can ship another wing socket. Please email OMP directly with your shipping info and I'll get a tube ready. Shaping the sides is a personal preference however most folks leave the trailing edge flat and the sides flat as well although you can round the sides if you like.

Looks great. What are you using for power?? I am about where you are in construction. I am waiting for the header to arrive from DA so I can get the fuse cut before I sheet the front. Then it's on to the wings.

You should be able to construct almost all the wings except for some of the sheeting. Just make sure you leave access for installing the tube and all the glue joints.

Mike. Do you remember what cannister you used with your hybrid? I have the KS cannister with the outlet in the front. The outlet will not allow the header to fit without cutting about 2" off which I believe is a no no. Thanks.
