hydro182 -> SIG DOUBLER II (5/9/2007 8:37:05 PM)

Just uploaded some pics of 2 Doublers that I recently completed.The red one isn't quite complete(radio,pipe,etc.)The blue one is currently my favorite flyer...

Dr1Driver -> RE: SIG DOUBLER II (5/9/2007 9:24:53 PM)

Nice looking planes. A few years ago, I built two for a couple of friends of mine. At their request, I shoehorned OS .32s in both of them. Talk about speed demons!

Thanks dr1,man that had to be smokin fast.....the blue one has a mecoa.15 and macs pipe and it's as fast as all my .46 planes running pipes.One thing I did notice is that it takes a looong approach to bleed off airspeed,excellent flyer though.How did yours balance out with a .32??

Dr1Driver -> RE: SIG DOUBLER II (5/9/2007 10:46:33 PM)

They were a little nose heavy, but not much. I moved the firewall back to keep the CG-to-prop nose moment the same, so that helped them balance correctly.

Bleed off speed? Ha! You might try a fifth channel with a "rock on a string" drop. LOL!

Hey Hydro182 My Son and I are very interested in these planes, are the kits still available? If not, how can we purchase a set of plans? thanks Larry

I think you can still get plans from sig. Otherwise I would watch ebay. These planes were discontinued in the early nineties so there should be some out there.

tlan -> RE: SIG DOUBLER II (12/10/2007 10:30:41 AM)

Wow Very nice job! Especially on the covering! I have DoublerII myself too. I built it 2 years ago...It was my first plane ever.... needless to say, I couldn't fly it for while until I gained enough experience. Even now I have only fly it on the "good" days, some times it is just too much for me to handle.
Mine has an MDS .18 in it, and I also opted for leaving out those nose thickeners (not sure what they are called... cheeks! ) I'm glad, or that would've make it even more nose heavy.
For lack of experience, I covered mine all black.... it just looked like a dot in the sky... so later I added some yellow stripes... and know it's known as The Bee.... I will find some pics (ohh... its the one on my avatar... if you can see it :) )

Found my post with some pics when I finished back in 2004... and the maiden..

tlan -> RE: SIG DOUBLER II (12/11/2007 9:13:33 AM)

Here a pic with pilot now... and some building pics..

Hey Hydro, I forgot to ask... but did you make a hatch for the tank (doesn't look like from the pics)... mine is buried there, I just pray I don't need to work in the tank often, since I need to cut the plane open for that. I had to do it once.
Also, what kind of wheels did you use... they look beefy. I got some very narrow ones in hopes of using the pants, but even with than it's pretty hard to make functional... I guess if I wont be using the pants I rather put some REAL wheels in there... peace out

Nice plane tlan,

I've been trying to acquire a set of plans for the Doubler II. Any chance I could persuade you to take your set to FedEx/Kinkos, copy them (either to paper or to a .pdf file) and send to me? I would of course reimburse you for your efforts.

Thanks,

Sure... No problem.
However, this week is hectic for me (Finals)... but I can stop by probably next week, and I will let you how much that is.

Red Baron Mike -> RE: SIG DOUBLER II (5/4/2008 1:42:28 AM)

I just posted one for sale, built and flyable, only $49.00 plus shipping.

skyraider71 -> RE: SIG DOUBLER II (5/6/2008 6:34:25 AM)

Hydro182,
Just checked out your doubler IIs, You are an excelent builder, I'm sure they fly as good as they look! I got into the hobby a little
too late to get one of those kits. I was able to get the plans, canopy, and landing gear from sig. I have never scratch built before.
do you think it make a good first scratch project? I have a mvvs .15 begging for a home!
