SchiBru -> japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/11/2007 12:36:23 PM)

Now it´s ready for maiden flight; the all new Addiction EP from Starcraft /Japan.
Bruno Schiffler will fly this model this season at the German Bundesliga and any international European competitions.
It´s the first japanese F3A construction specially manufactured for electric motor.
Starcraft Ltd. is the only japanese company, which sell models the famous original japanese F3A -models out of Japan ( as wooden kit or prebuilt or ready to fly at the unique japanese quality).
The Addiction EP is a typical japanese full balsa construction; two part wing with belly pan and canopy.
Hope, you enjoy the pictures

Ohio Gozimas Du
My eyes are getting bad - is there only one design in all of Japan and then the fliers just paint em differently?

pmr -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/12/2007 12:09:56 AM)

Fantastic! Did you buy the plane as a kit or fully constructed and painted?

Ryan Smith -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/12/2007 1:25:46 AM)

Wow, that is a beautiful airplane! The Japanese never cease to amaze me with their level of perfection and ingenuity.

MHester -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/12/2007 1:55:38 AM)

Man, those guys stay on top of thier game. Slick for sure.

It looks to me the paint is all the same colors on all of the planes it seems. While cool, I wonder why you don't see more variation than that?

It certainly has those distinctive Japanese lines. Gorgeous.

Nah, it's only $3825 based on today's exchange rate. But you can get the framed up version for $1900. That is, of course, if you want to go to Japan to get it. I doubt they ship.

papaone -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/12/2007 4:39:26 PM)

Hi

No problem with shipping.
Bruno Schiffler received his Addiction totally finished in Germany. In France I received the kit version only 5 days after my order.
Idem for Rune in Norway; Gerie in South Afriaca and others guys in US.

Great news!

SchiBru -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/13/2007 7:14:21 AM)

Hi at all and thanks for your interest.
Yesterday, the weather was still bad here in Germany but I could make the maiden flight (only one flight) short before darkness.
I have flown any of popular F3A-models the last years and please believe me, I´m not the guy, who is enthusiastic at the first flights of a new model and usually, I need approx. 30-40 flights until I´m satisfied.

I´m a critical guy and it should/ could be no final hymn of praise, but I´m deeply impressed, what the Addiction EP has shown at this flight!
WOW!!
Under the difficult weather conditions (strong crosswind) he do all what I want with great precision and was really easy to handle.
All looks like I have just flown the model many, many flights .
No question, I great basic for a perfect trimmed model.
I never have had such a maiden flight before!
I´m really deeply impressed!

The japanese guys are very, very successfull since we know F3A.
This must have reasons.
Now, I believe to know one of this reasons: nobody have to told the japanese guys, how to construct the perfect F3A-model.
Could be, that the japanese guys have found a very good compromise / solution since years....
This could be the reason, why the most of these japanese models have the same construction details since years ( very stiff wood construction without any design frills, not too small, not to big, airfoil, etc. etc... ) and why all japanese models looks very simular. (In my opinion: over all a timeless design which is simple good)
You´re right Mike, it looks like the biggest difference is the color scheme, but this is fundamental the same at all F3A-models over the world, because F3A is not a question of a striking modeldesign; it´s a question of the over all best construction to have the very best flight performance in different flight task under different weather conditions....)

Bruno

SchiBru,

Its good to know that your satisfied with the Addiction since I'm also considering the same plane (160 size) myself. Please keep us posted with your next flight report.

Anybody out there who has flown the addiction, preferrably the 160 size please post a flight report because I'm almost about to decide to get the 160 kit version.

F.Imbriaco -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/13/2007 3:04:38 PM)

Just $3,825.00. @ that price, I'll take two.

SchiBru -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/23/2007 9:03:00 AM)

Flight report

In the meantime, the Addiction EP have 51 flights, one day was enough to trim the model 100% (it has flown from the maidenflight 90% perfect )

I have tried many, many things and I need really only two very, very small mixing for a 120% perfect, absolutely neutral flight characteristic!!!
one mixing : elevator (up and down) to rudder left 1 mm ( could be a question of the torque of big prop)
second mixing : rudder to elevator : in knife edge 1mm elevator up ( this could be a question of angle of setting and GC, but because upline, downline and the groundline are absolutely top at each throttle position; I see no reason to change something)

Until yet, I never have had a model which fly perfect with such less mixing!

I´m really happy with the Addiction and it is sure since the very first flight: this construction needs no modifications. Congratulation to the Starcraft company!!!

All details at the Addiction works fine; incl. the motormount, the cooling system of motor and batterie, the fixing of batterie, canopy, belly pan and wings ….

I have tried APC 21x13 WE ( good but with 130 grams heavy) and APC 21x14 E ( 109 grams; good at very strong wind but I feel to fast at normal wind conditions).
I decide to fly with my last year carbon prop 22x12 (weight 90 grams); with the better voltage of the new ThunderPower extreme and the low resistance of Addiction, I could fly with the same prop more groundspeed ( if needed at strong wind) as last year with the Beryll (that´s what I want!).

The power upside is great. To fly " constant speed" at normal wind condition, I only need 70 % of full throttle upside; 450 U/min less from maximum 6380 Rpm (static)
( in upside flight max Rpm at 100% throttle 6660 U/min, reading from the Spin controller) with prop 22x12.
I fly three flight conditions: no wind, wind, strong wind with 70, 85 and 100 % max. throttle ( at controller fixpoint "on" at 2,0 m/s with Futaba RC) and other throttle curves at each condition. The advantage is the same throttle-stick position at different wind conditions but other groundspeed)

These three conditions are combine with different brakes downside. Fixing point at low throttle 1,1 ms at Hacker Spin 99. Initiale point of motor 110 % at Futaba, only to activate with additional switch at transmitter ( add. security(!), the motor never runs, if this switch is not activate one time); full brake/low throttle at normal and wind condition at 96% low stick position; low throttle position at strong wind 93% (no brake upside). Add. I could switch the brake "off" ( position 93%) for 45 upside headwind flightlines at normal and wind condition with a stick switch.
The first brake of Spin controller aktivate after 0,9 sec. with 14%; after one secound later, the secound brake activate with 26%.

With this trimming, the Addictions is flying a perfect constant speed at each wind condition ( from slow at normal wind condition to faster at strong wind) with the same stick positions of throttle stick!
It is striking, how easy the Addiction manage turbulent wind; the model is very easy to handle at crosswind.
With aileron differtial upside 80%, downside 100% all rolls are a show, The snaps upside / downside are very clean and solid and one of the Addictions strong points is, that all snaps stopped faster you can see!
The Addiction turns very stabile on the spot and have no tendency to swing downside.
At knife edge the fuselage is horizontale and needs only less ruder; no rolling tendency.

The best way to describe the Addiction is, that it presents extremely well and smooth all things in the air ( and at the buttom also!!) .
The Addiction is a very good looking, pure flying machine with characterics over all, I never have had in one model before.
Addiction, Zeque, Astral XX, Aries and other; I´m sure, this is one level.
But the Addiction is the one and only original japanese model you can buy outside Japan and the EP-version is a special up to date construction for electricpower with removable canopy, belly pan and two part wing.
It´s a top, very solide traditional wooden-workmenship with the unique japanese "dream" quality finish.
Each millimeter of this plane justify the price, which is not cheap but thze bresult of a honest work. The price is on the level of other top-world class F3A-models.
I´m really impressed and in love....... and I have ordered a secound!

All of you a good F3A season 2007!

SchiBru -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/23/2007 9:55:08 AM)

Hello Papaone,

yes; I will fly Romilly. It would be nice to meet you there.
Sure, you can put my impressions in the French forum F3A.

best regards

Bruno

darkvader -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/23/2007 10:11:50 AM)

Congratulations Bruno for your Addiction EP!

Nice to hear when we feel that entusiasm with a new plane.[;)].
Your trimming flight report is great!

Please confirm what Motor and prop you are using on it. Hacker C50-15XL or 14XL? CF 22x12 Prop?
Are you using 14MZ G3 receiver on it?. At what distance from the batteries?

Good Luck for you and your Addiction.

Have nice flights.

pmr -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/23/2007 10:30:28 AM)

Good detailed flight report. I'm glad to hear that your very satisfied because I just bought a 160 Addiction kit yesterday. I normally wouldnt get a plane without hearing a very good review but I still went for it, knowing that its Japanese made/design, then it must be good! Im a bit relieved to hear that someone finally made a positive flight report on this model.

SchiBru -> RE: japanese electric model Addiction EP (5/23/2007 11:13:06 AM)

Pmr:
Congratulation! I´m sure, you will be impressed of the kit and flight performance. Please have a look at http://f3a.sakura.ne.jp/radiocontroll/special/make/addction/addction_01.html;
at this famous japanese website is a good building report of Addiction 160.

darkvader:
Thank you.
I fly the 14XL with 22x12 CF Prop from Günter Uhlsamer (National Team Germany) With the Thunder Power Extreme ( or simular Flight Power F3A) you have with the 14 XL more power like the 13 XL with the TP 5300 or simular cells. For my impressions, the 13XL with the new cells is to "hot"; the 15 XL with 22x12 and new cells should work fine but I love the additional power of the 14XL; it make it easier to fly at strong wind conditions. ( You could get the same groundspeed but less upside power with 15XL and 21x14 prop )The max. amps with 14XL, 22x12 and TP extreme at throttle 100% is 82 amps. No problem for the batterie and motor and please remember; you only need this power at very strong wind conditions for only 2-3 secounds max. 5 times during one flight. At my normal flight condition; this combo have max. 68 Amps.
I´m satisfied with the combo.

I fly the DP 149 receiver. The G3 receiver works fine at all gas powered models, but I have had problems ( short holds, not a question of distance from the batterie) at electric powered models last year. In the meantime, we know, that the G3 needs in electricfied models the filter (order no. robbe F 1413) to work ever fine, also under bad conditions.
I have a good feeling with my DP149 and I feel no difference in speed, if I have not flown the same model with the faster G3 system many times before.
I know many electrified models which works fine with G3 but for me, it´s too short before season start to make this experiment.

Bruno
