Here's a story that is probably mostly fiction, but if you flew Aeronca's
in rural areas back in the 60's, you'll recognize the characters.

nice article, my dad and I flew a chief in the late sixty's to 1973 when I left for college. It had a wooden lever fastened to the floor so you could hand start from inside. You could walk the prop to compression give it a qaurter turn and start. But we always hand propped it. She was pretty red with a white stripe and wheel pants. Real sharp had a matching red spinner.

What a great trip down memory lane. That's the way flying used to be. I just bought a 1949 Chief and am in the process of restoring it and yes, it WILL be covered in Stits. Thanks for posting that story. I enjoyed every minute of it.
