Dear All
Does anyone know what the wing section was on the Jaguar please.
Dibble is designing one at the moment but he is having difficulty
finding the correct section. Any help would be appreciated.

The Jaguar will be roughly 1/6th scale with a wingspan of 58 inches and a
fuselage length of 110 inches approx. It will be powered by a Merlin P160.

The colour scheme has not yet been chosen but it will have
Coltishall Memorial Flight just under the cockpit on the port side
and Spirit of Coltishall in the shape of a sine wave nearer the nose
also on the port side.

Thank you Phil Goff.

Dear Mick
Thank you very much.
When the Jaguar replaced the Lightning here at Colt, everybody said what is that.
As you well know the old Lightning would go straight up from take off.
The poor old Jaguar staggered into the air.

But we grew to love it, it was at Colt for thirty odd years almost half of the stations operational life.
We had three fly over Colt the day after they ceased operational flying, it was fantastic.

We wish we could turn back the clock here in Norfolk and Coltishall would still be open and the Jaguar
would be roaring around the Norfolk skies. alas we can't do that.

I have started a Coltishall Memorial Flight so the station and all who served fought and died there will never be forgotten.

We have an EE Lightning, Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane.
So we really do need to have a Jaguar.

Regards Phil G.

You are welcome.
I believe those drawings came from a World Air Power Journal article several years ago. The late Ivan Munninghoff sent those copies to me when I was working on my Jaguar.
I didn't get past the drawing stage on my project (life got in the way), but it was about the same size as what you are proposing.

I have several Jaguar books, and also scanned and enlarged some cut-away sections from plastic model for different fuselage stations. Let me know if you need anything else.

I think those drawings came from one of the ARGUS Drawing books that were available in the UK many moons ago.... I have some of those books.

Would be interesting to find out what airfoil they used on those Jags.

Dear All
Thank you for your help.
We have been advised by someone on RCMF that the scale section would not be suitable
for use on a model.
So we might have to compromise on that.

Regards Phil G.

Hi Mick,
I was interested to read this Jag forum. Certainly the Jag has some very vivid memories for me; my son Flt Lt Jason Hayes was unfortunate enough to be the last Jag pilot killed in the Jag. He was flying on Cope Thunder in Alaska in Jul 2001 and unfortunately clipped a rock which threw him into the mountain underneath him. I miss the wonderful lad very, very much but I am very proud that he had an association with such dedicated Jag mates as yourself. Did you know him?

Guys I am working on a large scale 1/5,5 Jaguar for a 200 N + class engine.

I am avidly looking for quality fuselage cross sections. Anyone who has something better than the Polish documentation is welcome to post it here or pm it to me...

Thanks.

Good to see the Jag getting some more attention. We just shot the clearcoat on mine yesterday, and I'm eager to start the reassembly & rigging.

Mr Hayes - sorry to hear of your loss. Just 28 years old too - damn. I simply don't know what to say ... other than a heartfelt thank you to every armed services guy who puts his butt on the line on our behalf.

Oliver - I have quite a few Jag books etc that I picked up for my project. If the stuff that f86 Sabre posted is not enough, let me know and I'll start rumaging through all the documnetation.

Thank you F-86

Gordon, the stuff pointed by F-86 is the Polish documentation that I have. Unfortunately there are a very few cross sections and some are wrong.
I stopped the project a year ago because of this. I could never find around 15 decent fuselage cross sections...
So if you have anything better, I'd happy to have a look at it...

OK - I'll look through my documentation this weekend and see if I can come up with anything that might help.

Gordon, you don't have time this weekend.....you need to get that baby assembled ASAP so we can see what she looks like with all the bits attached.

Thank you Carlos.

Unfortunately it is always the same doc that comes up.
This 3 view drawing originally cam from a Japanese review. The profile and cross sections are just average and not good enough for a proper scale project ( I have the original review at home )

Olivier, why don't you buy a 1/72 or 1/48 plastic scale model to have access to those cross sections ? That would be very simple.

not sure how relevant this is anymore, but you could buy the model, preferably in 48 scale and buy a simple pin contour gauge. make your marks on the drawing for your bulkheads and then scale down to the model. press the pin guage on the model and transfer to paper, then translate to your scale. works every time.

that's how I did mine when converting to paper at my scale. I am doing a 9th scale Jaguar at the moment and I have gotten from the drawing board to a foam fuselage.

if you want the scale airfoil, it is the NACA 65A-006. I think you'll want to slightly up scale the wing a little to increase the area, which is exactly what I am doing with mine.

deffinitely use a pin contour gauge though, it's so simple and easier than using 3 views, especially knowing most are wrong. I did mine a from an Airfix 72 scale model, but I think a 48 or 32 scale would be a bit easier to measure from.

Trumpeter are apparently doing a 1:32nd scale Jaguar. There are some shots of the prototype parts on BritModeller.

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=39211&st=60

Otherwise I think the 1:48th from Airfix is generally available.

yes, the Airfix is widely available and can be had for a good price on Ebay, if you can't find one in the stores. the 72 scale is fine to work from though and they are even more widely available than the 48 scale. either way, you are going to get a pretty accurate contour using a pin gauge. the drawings available online are nowhere near as accurate and are sometimes to slightly different scales..........as I have found out. a model is by far your best choice if you can find a pin gauge at your local hardware store. I bought mine for about 15 dollars at Canadian Tire, but in other countries, you will have to source them out, but are readily available to be purchased. again, the airfoil is hard to come by, for some reason, but it is the NACA 65A-006 for those that need to know. LOL. hope that helps.
