Crashes with a TREX450, should I buy the expensive metal only to bend it?
I have a Walkera 36, AR7000, Phoenix 35, JGF 450th.. All good gear, need a good frame. Every time I crash even just a tip over the blade will touch the pavement then swing around strike the boom and come to a dead stop. This twists my head assemble and destroys about half the helicopter.

Does this same thing occur on a Trex 450? I am wondering if it does then the metal head is meaningless and I may as well buy the cheap version. I am not talking about if you slam it head long into a wall, I mean just a simple blade check..?, i.e. it tips and grazes the concrete and self implodes while still sitting on the **bleepin** skids.

I definately want to move up to a Trex 450 but I don't know if I should spend 550 bucks for the SE V2 or just go for a 200 buck SA or what. I can't afford to loose 200 dollars in parts per crash, I am a good pilot but we all know that it's when you will crash, not if.

HDX-450SE V3 versus TREX450SE V2
I have been told that the HDX-450SE V3 is better then the Trex 450SE V2 by a tech at HeliHobby in Van Nuys. I dunno if I can believe that, I mean Align is pretty much the standard right? Anyone dare to say it's at least as good as a Trex 450SE?

I am looking at the Trex 450SE V2 @ 550 bucks thinking man I would be terrified to fly this thing. I have kids and stuff, I mean I could squeeze out 5 or 6 bills but it would hurt. 300 bucks for the HDX is so much better.

Does anyone have any bad experiences with this one?

In my opinion the SE is just for show. Get a SA, and take the money you save to get more lipos.
While your buddies are over there admiring themselves in the reflection off their fancy carbon boom, you will be out shreading sky.

The SA has all the stuff you need, and none of the stuff you dont. Its lighter, and cheaper. Do you really need all the bling?

Just a thought.

The link you posted looks just like the diablo and/ or copter X from www.ehirobro.com. I dont think it would be a bad deal though for 229 bucks.

For whatever it's worth, I saw a TREX 450SE V2 go in from forward flight this past week. He seemed to have minor damage. He was however, running wood blades instead of the CF blades that come with the V2. He commented that it probably saved a lot of damage. I was impressed enough with the V2 to go buy one Thursday. They sure fly nice!

The 450SA flies just as nice and is lot easier on the wallet. Here's some good advice to all newbies. Reason why it's good is because I took my own advice.

The bling you see the experts and 3D guys fly with wil not and I will that repeat WILL NOT make you fly like a 3D expert.

If the helicopter is blinged out and expensive you are less likely to take risks to learn to fly because of the huge investment.

It is cheaper to replace the plastic parts rather aluminum. I hate to say this but you will crash. As your skill level progresses after each crash you can begin replacing with the aluminum bling. I have a 450SA and absolutely love it. I have upgraded a few plastic parts because the ground kept flying in my flight path. LOL. Each crash average cost was $30.00.

I was able to get a Trex 450 SE for $350 including motor, speed controller with governor and a trex battery. This GL450 from banana hobby does not include all that and is $225, this is not that good a deal. There are good deals out there for the name brand stuff.

I've wrecked my SE quite a few times and have not bent anything other than your typical main shaft, feathering shaft, aluminum boom, or tail shaft. If had to do it over, I'ld go with an aluminum clone. In regards to the HDX, I got a 3DX from CNCHelicopter/XMSeller, it's good quality, but $229 for an SE and a case,...YUP.

I just ran across today a 100% direct copy of the T-Rex 450 SE. All parts are interchangeable according to their advertising. Called a Phoenix 450SE. $299 and it includes a case to carry it in. See it here:

http://www.heliwarehouse.com/products.asp?cat=10

I have had my 3DX-450 almost as long as I have had my Trex 450 SE. I like it much better than the T-Rex. It has always flown better, smoother,......... just a really nice helicopter. With the exception of the frame, most everything is compatible with T-Rex parts (blades, belts, spindles, main shaft, gears, etc.) Top notch quality too:

Hi, I am currently building a copterx (trex 450 v1 clone), and a hdx 450v3. While the copterx is very nice, the hdx has a much stronger frame, proper 120 degree servo layout, and is so much easier to work on, especially as regards to mounting the servos! Also the hdx tail assembly is beautifully made, all ball bearings with no slop whatsoever.
The hdx can be purchased on ebay for a great price, I got mine for$175! I think there is a reserve price of about $200 on them now. Why people buy trexes instead of the hdx is beyond me, the hdx is far superior, great quality and an amazing price.

I recently got my TREX 450 SE flying and LOVE IT!

I can't believe how solid it flies. Even in light winds, the tail is still locked in. I have a Futaba 401 gyro and 9650 servo. I'm even thinking about selling my Blade CP Pro to finance another TREX... most likely the 450 SA.

Hi guys, I just completed my T-Rex 450 today. I too am very impressed with how smooth they operate. I've been fliing a RTF Exceed Raptor G2; it's a nice little helicopter with all the upgrades but nothing compared to the T-Rex 450. Mine was the 450X then I upgraded the frame to the SE. I also bought the T-Rex 600 but haven't quite completed it yet. I can't wait to see how it flys. Well have fun. starcop

That's the one thing I love about the Walkera 36. Slightest breeze will bring down my FP but the 36 doesn't even care about the wind. Even 10mph gusts do nothing but give it more climb rate.

I am definately not paying 550.00 for Trex 450SE V2. I will do the clone, one of them. I want bling, but it doesn't have to have the word Align on the side of it. :P I love the clones!.. I will go Trex latter, maybe. I am not rich.

Hey Helismith, I've heard very good things about the CopterX (T-rex clone). Heck all the parts or most of them interchange. I'd go with there up-graded HDX version, it has all the aluminum upgrades, carbon fiber frame. I watched a video of the copterX fliing and all they had to say as far as the differences go is the motor doesn't have quite as much power; or it was a little under-powered for 3D flight. It flew very well in the video. I've seen the CopterX ARF for 199.00 and 210.00. The Align SA version is 199.00 and it's a pretty sweet helicopter. My T-Rex 450X has the SA aluminum frame. After fliing the Walkera 36 to learn with the T-Rex is a nice change. It's almost a no brainer to fly now. Also the helifreaks web site has all the build videos for the T-Rex and the CopterX so you might want to check them out, you may already have... Well just making small talk. starcop
