I've been looking for one of these planes that would be a good match up for a G62. I was looking for an ARF but it looks like there are no ARF's of these planes available for the size I'm looking for. Ok, If I have to build to get what I want, what would be the kit to buy that would be for someone that hasn't got a lot of spare time and very little experience at glassing?

Bob , what about the American Eagle Hellcat or Bearcat ? Essentially Ziroli models with glass fuses and foam wings. Not built one , YMMV , etc.

Easier than building a wood Ziroli kit I would think.

dorjes,

Thanks for the info but man, the American Eagle kits looks like a lot of glass work to me and a lot of time that I don't have. The pics of the planes look really good but those were built by people that know what they are doing. Anything out there that may be more on the lines of a ARC or something that may have some of the work already finished?

There isn't anything out there that I know of that fits the conditions you have specified.

To find what you are looking for, you will have to buy from the classifieds or a swapmeet. Even so, they will be hard to find.

what span would the hellcat have to be for a Z62?

About 82"-90".

I would go with a Jerry Bates Bearcat cuz its much more scale. I am putting on a G62 in mine. The Ziroli is good but I would put at least a 4.2 or 5.8 engine in it. But since your looking for an ARC go with the Cactus Aviation kit, but your G62 would be too small for it.

Here is a video of the Ziroli Zero with a G62

alanc,

The Zenoah G62 has a great weight range for planes. I have one in a WH Extra 300LX at 18lbs but the G62 will fly a 30+ lbs plane very scale like. Kinda looks like the big Warbirds are a builders class so I may be out of luck. When I started this thread I didn't think I'd have much luck. The smaller Warbirds just don't look the part, they have to be giant scale to really give the plane justice. I thank everyone for there help. I guess I'll just move on to something else.

fw190,

I just took a good look at the Cactus Aviation kits. It says and I quote, "The Cactus Aviation Bearcat can be ordered in white, navy blue, or silver gel-coat. No painting is necessary!" It sounds to me like a lot of this plane is already built up and painted. Anyone have one of there kits that can shed a little light on my fading dream???

I don't believe anyone has mentioned the ThunderTiger F8F ARF.
It might be worth a look if you don't want to built a kit.

http://www.cactusaviation.com/products/Aircraft/Scale/Bearcat/bearcat.html is the only site I know. It is a nice kit. The only problem is it uses standard gear instead of the articulators. Sierra Giant makes an awesome set of articulators. I am sure the mods on the kit can be done.

at 38-45 lbs a G62 may fly it but it may not be too appealing IMHO. I would go with a larger engine so a trade-in your g62 in the swap shop for a larger engine and make your dream come true.

fw190,

Have any ideal what they charge for one of these kits? They won't answer emails. Normally when they say "Contact us for prices" that means there probably pretty high.

I just got my 3W Bearcat in January. She is still in the box but I have all the components and will start construction soon. First of all, a G-62, while an excellant engine and one of my all time favorits, will NEVER fly that Bearcat. All up weight on the bearcat should approach 45 lbs or more. I am using Darrell's retracts which are simply beautiful. For power, I have an RCS 215 radial. By comparison to the G-62, the RCS 215 has 75 pounds of thrust! The Bearcat comes collored in the mold. In my case, the navy blue. In my opinion, the blue is close, but not quite scale in color. nevertheless, the molding detail is nearly flawless and a beautiful aircraft. Also, the largest Bearcat on teh market (as far as i know) with a little over 100" wing span. The kit from Aircraft International cost me either 2400 or 2600 hundred dollars, but I don't specifically recall. Shipping was another $200.00. Landing gear from Darrell, including the tailweel was a bit over $800.00. If you don't use the radial, I would recommend at least a 3W-120. I have a friend who has a 150 in his and he tells me the power is overwhelming and more than necessary.
