Hey all,
I have the 86" Yak and have been trying to figure out what to do with the canopy. I am not real thrilled about the light mist of silver effect it has. Most people at feld ask me why it is fogging up...lol. Anyway. I was thinking about painting it black with rc car paint but was wondering what the silver mist would like if I put black on. Anyone done something different woth the stock canopy?

Thanks

Z

Z,

I don't recommend black. Sun will shrink it in no time and your equipment will get really hot, unless you cover it at all times. Back to your question, probably black paint will make it black. Before you paint it, rub it with aceton (from inside) and will make the canopy almost clear then hit it with paint.

Thank you,
Reza

I agree, the misty canopy does not take my fancy. Maybe you can spray on some of that stuff the put on car tail lights to make them darker?

The tinted canopy on my 73" Yak looks trick!

Cheers
Jason.

Here's mine...

I used a combination of "window tint" and "outlaw black"

Thanks

Reza,
The acetone wont attack the lexan or whatever the canopy is made of?

Thanks

I don't think acetone will hurt it but try it on small piece first. I had to clean some glue off of my canopy and I used acetone with no problems.

This Green Blue effect is spraying the inside with Lexan paints after taking the black off with acetone, its green metal flake in a semi trasparent with a blue metal flake over both obtained from my local hobby shop with a model car section. I think it looks good.

Mike

EDIT: in the pic it looks quite a course finnish, that is just where the flash from the camera picked out some of the metal flake that was laying in the direction of the flashgun, in reality it looks a very fine finnish.

i was not too thrilled with the light mist on the inside of it either, but after a little work I have gotten it to come clear with some car products. I used a clear coat paste car waxed and puffed out the inside, takes a lot of time and work to get the paint off. It took a few hours but the end product was really nice. After i got it clear, I used Meguiars Plastx, it's a clear plastic cleaner and polish. I was able to get it to come very clear and buffed out some small scratches. In my opinion it was worth the end product all the time I spent at it. I did it while I was at the flying field.
