nanolion -> A123 - new 32157 battery capacity (5/17/2007 11:41:32 PM)

A123 just announced the 32157 high capacity single cell. I cannot find the specs.

Does anybody know the energy density or capacity? I hope it is at least 35 watthour. 10 Ah would be nice for this 3.2 V battery. This would be a breakthrough.

Where did you hear about it? I could find nothing on either of their web sites. At this size increase over the 2.3 AH 26650 cell I would think that 10 Ah is achievable.

http://www.a123systems.com/newsite/index.php#/products/cells32series/

If indeed it has 35 Wh (a conjecture at this point), then the energy density as compared to the 26650 would be about a 30% improvement.[:D]

But is this cell going to have any use in R/C applications? I'm still waiting to hear more about the new cells/packs first publicized at RCX 2007.

I would open up the whole Giant Scale electric modeling if the prices are in line.

The issue is not so much the size, but the energy density of the cell chemistry. If indeed the 32 series have higher energy densities, then it would be a breakthrough with wide ranging implications both in RC and outside.

If an improvement in density has been achieved, then I am sure smaller format batteries will follow in due course.

Metallover -> RE: A123 - new 32157 battery capacity (8/6/2008 11:13:27 PM)

It is designed for 1/1 cars so idk if it will work for RC.
