I have a 46Ax with an MAS 10x6 prop and it's also fairly slow. Though its a nice plane its a bit heavy for for a 46 size engine. A 55AX would probably go well in it.

Well, I done some changes this past sunday. I intalled a 10x7 APC Prop and replace the glow plug for a hoter one (Enya 3) Getting 14,000 RPM with 10% nitro and the airplane was flying more faster

I need to buy a 10x6 to try it an see what happend

This is my Phoenix Models Tucano. I used a O.S 46 engine, fly great with this engine. I also used a Pitts Slimline Muffler to keep the scale look.

I just got mine in the air last weekend, i did go all out on mine with mechanical retracts and a macs pipe on my old fx46. it flys very well, nice and smooth and no bad habbits. landing is just a bit faster than a trainner but thats maybe because of my extra weight in retracts. the conversion was a bit of work, probabaly more than i wanted to do to such a cheap plane. i also lowered the tank 10mm. cheers Greg

, I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS SUCH A HEAVY PLANE,I JUST ORDERED ONE FROM MY LOCAL HOBBY SHOP, I HAD AN F-20 TIGERSHARK FROM PHOENIX THAT IS TILL IT STARTED GLITCHING WHILE IN FLIGHT, I THOUGHT THE DAM THING WAS GONNA KILL ME.WELL ANYWAY I ORDERED THE TUCANO THINKING IT WAS MUCH LIGHTER GUESS I WAS WRONG.BUT I DO HAVE A MAGNUM .52 WICH WAS SWINGING AN APC 11X6 PROP. & TACHING 14.000 RPM W/ STOCK MUFFLER.

Hi Folks,

I"ve just started to assemble the plane.Mine is also from Phonix,but its the larger,1700mm wingspan version, it comes with flaps.I"m gonna fly it with a brand new 10cm 2str Magnum engine.My overall impression is good nas for the quality and look is concerned.The covering is wrinkle free and has nice color.7 Fut S3003 servo will move the control surfaces.

I RECIVED MY PHOENIX TUCANO FROM MY LOCAL HOBBY SHOP YESTERDAY.THE FUSE ,WING AND TAIL DO'NT SEEM TO BE AS HEAVY AS I THOUGHT BUT THE HARDWARE BAG WOW!.I SWAPED THE ENGINE MOUNT FOR THE GREAT PLANES BRAND,AND THAT PLASTIC TANK SOTPPER HAS GOT TO GO.I'M WONDERING IF MY MAGNUM .52 XLS WOULD MOVE IT FAST ENOUGH FOR MY LIKEING? WOULD IT FLY JET LIKE?

Greeting, John here. I had one of those and I loved it. The thing flys great and relatively easy to land. On word though. the balsa panels on either side of the fuse meet at the leading edge of the wing. They are butted to each other on the Ply former(which is also the thinnest part of the plane when meassured from top to bottom) you can see from the inside. One the occasion that you hit the nose, it has a tendence to break the sides. Going in and re-enforcing this area with some heated epoxy or some thin CA is not a bad idea. that is the only problem that I experienced with this plane. I lost mine when my elevator servo stripped right after take off. The thing rolled over and center punched a tree. The plane was a total loss. I really miss this plane but I look at a crash as a chance to move on so I upgraded to a Revolver.

from u that you OWN this ARF,

do you suggest it yes or no?
Ofcourse some majour re-inforcements are needed (in my oppinion) to all ARF's we buy.

Just finished mine last weekend. Did the maiden flight yesterday between storms and it flew great. It's not the Phoenix, but the one from Nitro models. It weighs 10 lbs and had retracts and flaps. Flies great, but needs more power! Sorry to see yours crashed!

Jeff that's an interesting scheme you have used. I have one on order and thinking of adding retracts to it.

What engine have you used??

I would be interested to see more pictures of the retracts installation if they are available.

Isaac, I'm with you on crashed models. I feel big rebuilds are not for me, but I have plenty of friends who love the challenge of making a wrecked model fly again. I think some of them get a real kick out of it too

Speaking of rebuilds, I got tired of my Seagull PC-9. Flies great but they all look the same so I am converting mine to a U.S.A.F. T-6 Texan II. Should be done this weekend. Adding two scale pilots from Blue Box, cockpit details, retracts and 12th Fighter Training Wing markings.

PANAMA ISAAC, WATCH OUT FOR AILERON FLUTTER ON THAT PLANE, IT REALLY FLIES FAST AND ON LANDING COME'S IN KINDA QUICK BUT REASONBLELY LANDABLE. A FREIND OF MINE HAD A JET .60 ENGINE IN IT.

I FINEALLY FLEW MY TUCANO FROM PHEONIX WITH A MAGNUM XLS .52 AND IT'S STRAIGHT UP ROCKET VERTICAL UPLINE WITH POWER TO SPARE. THEN I TRIED MY EVOLUTION .46 ON IT AND FLEW FAIRLY WELL A WOT.THIS TUCANO REALLY IS'NT FOR A .40 OR A .46 LIKE IT SAY'S ON THE BOX, BUT RATHER A .55 AX OR ANY .50 UP TO A SMALL BLOCK .60 BUT I THINK THE .60 WOULD BE KINDA HEAVY. WITH THE MAGNUM .52 MINE FLEW BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD UNFORTUNATLY MY MAGNUM BROKE OFF THE CRANK SHAFT CONNECTING ROD CAUSE I WAS RUNNING IT A LITTLE LEAN AND THE BLUE HEAD CHANGED FROM BLUE TO PURPLE, BUT I SENT IN FOR ANOTHER MAGNUM XLS .52 IT'S A GOOD ENGINE JUST GOTTA RUN IT A LITTLE RICHER THAN NORMAL SO IT DOES'NT OVER HEAT ON THE VERTICALS.

That's a nice looking conversion you have there. I have flown the "vanilla" standard model for some time. Great Sunday flier!!

I am hacking a Phoenix Tucano at the moment and hopefully it will look like an RAF display team Tucano when I have finished!

Only negative is that I got lazy so I didn't stretch the horizontal stabs/elevators out behind the vertical as a T-6 and haven't added retracts yet.

I have the Phoenix Tucano also. I started with a Fox .40, then an old Royal .46. Definitely underpowered and neither engine will idle inverted well. I am about to find a .51-.56, or maybe even go to a .61. The cowl is butchered now & needs to be replaced at $18.99. When I put the Royal .46 in, I couldn't put it in the stock enigne mount. I bought an adjustable and took my Dremel to it to make holes align with the factory blind-nuts. Another guy at our field has one, but he decided to go to a .75 in his and threw the cowling away. It's great in the air, but it's 6.2 lbs and even a standard .46 isn't enough. I guess the guy in a previous post was right, it's designed around the OS 46AX. Anyway, I've dead-sticked about 4 times myself, and 6 by another guy helping to tune the engines. I haven't crashed it yet. It's gone into desert brush 5 times and NEVER came apart or suffered major damage. I only had the problem of bent landing gears, mostly the nose gear.

Just saw a version on RichmondRC.com made by VMAX. The cost is $149, but they have more detail in the cockpit and lg. Same basic pre-pinned/pre-installed control surface construction for the ailerons, rudder, elevator. The lg struts are pre-installed, looks great. Engine mount is two beam metal with clamps. Check it out. The version is a "TECANO Embraer S312", recommending .46-.61 engines and actually states the brand/models that the plane was meant to fly with.

I hope this thread is still going. I was wondering if anyone has used a 4 stroke in this plane?
If so what was your experience and how much modification did the cowel take to fit?
