Rezagh -> New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (5/22/2007 7:39:15 PM)

Dear All,

New Somenized (TM) Yak-54, 102" Gen III will be available by Mid June. Plane will have the folowing changes:

1. New 120" QS scheme, meaning just like the new 120" QS scheme.
2. Foam free tech.
3. SFG clear color
4. Plug and run canisters
5. New canopy structure for longer life.
6 A thin foam has been added to the back of the canopy to reduce noise.

Regards,
Reza Gholamipour

Will the fiberglass landing gear, which has a tendency to chip and crack, be changed to a CF gear?

Steve -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (6/19/2007 5:48:41 PM)

Any photos yet?

bob_nj -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (6/25/2007 3:58:56 PM)

Someone told me the Yak might be available in all white so a personal scheme could be done.
Is that true?

Thanks
Bob

Hey Bob,
This batch first of the G III 102"ers is the new Brio scheme. I'm not sure if they will do white ones in the future, I'm sure Reza will answer that. Mine will be here this week, your pretty close to me you are more than welcome to check it out anytime, it's a great looking and flying plane.

bob_nj -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (6/26/2007 2:15:40 AM)

What is the "Brio" scheme, and how is it different than the previous colors?

Are you saying that you have one on order and it will be here for sure this week?

I called today and was told the next batch will be here soon and had to leave my name on a call list.

mxcop114 -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (6/26/2007 7:04:50 PM)

They may be here Friday or next week.

mxcop114 -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/3/2007 5:19:05 PM)

My Gen III 102 Yak arrived today. I'm having trouble downloading pictures in this forum but I did manage to get them on F.G., check them out.

bob_nj -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/4/2007 10:28:11 AM)

Mine arrived on 07/03/07 also. I was told the shipping company would give a call to schedule delivery, but there was no call.
It's a good thing I was home, and it was late evening when it got there. Wonder what would have happened if I wasn't home?
No biggie.

This thing is top shelf in workmanship, and a beautiful plane. Everything was as advertised and straight as an arrow.
I could not have done as nice a job as the plane I received.

One suggestion for packaging for clumsy people like me. I had to unpack it alone as there was no one around to help me.
When I pulled the fuse out of the bag, the canopy fell of and hit the floor [:o]
Put a nice sized break in the back of the canopy which I'll have to patch up somehow. No matter what I wind up doing, it will show
and be ugly.

Anyway, after I finish with the 80" OMP Edge profile kit, this baby is next.

Raining here today on the 4th [&o]

Here are a couple pics. All servos and linkage is installed know also. I'm held up right now because I need to get to the hobby shop for some things. I don't want to mount anything until the motor is mounted so I can figure out where to put the power box ect... I will be ready to fly tomorrow.

Reza, I was doing a visual check when I noticed that the left landing gear metal brace has the tapped holes only partially through the metal, whereas the right brace has the tapped holes all the way through. Is this normal? I guess not. In that case, what can be done to rectify it?

The instruction manual in the box is for the Gen 2 Yak 102". Has there been a packing error?

Rezagh -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/10/2007 5:19:30 AM)

Hi There,

No it is not normal but a 10 second drill job:) You will hold the bolts with nuts.

Thank you,
Reza

Barry Cazier -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/10/2007 6:47:33 AM)

[:)]I'm thinking about this plane. Website says it's still not available. Yet it looks like people are getting them?!?!?!? Is it available to the common man?

Thanks
Barry

Give QQ Aircraft a call. They have been very busy and I don't think they have had a chance to update the website. I know they send everything they have pre-ordered by people out first but they should still have plenty planes left.

Hi Barry,

Our webmaster is not feeling good, he's been a little sick and we wish him soon recovery. Anyways, yes they are available. Get it before you have to wait for the next shipment:)

(I posted in want ads..but don't get much action there seems!)

mxcop114 -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/12/2007 3:41:37 AM)

Hey guys here are a couple pictures for you.

Lee

Rezagh -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/12/2007 4:54:27 AM)

Lee,

Picture looks great!

Randy,

Mine is still in the box. I will open it up and do detailed pics of everything next week. I'm not sure if time would allow a build thread, especially that GenII and GenIII are very close almost identical except that GenIII has the ready to run canister that makes it even easier.

Bobzilla,

Are we out of stock on these items?

Regards,
Reza

rajul -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/13/2007 1:59:41 AM)

Reza, in the bag labelled "cowl mounting parts" there are four wooden blocks as per attached pic. What are these used for? I can't find any description for these in the manual.

Also, there should be six cowl grommets instead of the four provided. Two additional needed for the standoff holes

bobzilla -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/13/2007 3:18:46 AM)

Reza..don't know about stock..but at $207+ for canopy/cowl..
Thanks goodness for RCU memebers who have replied and offered used ones at a considerable savings!
bobzilla

Rezagh -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/13/2007 4:57:19 AM)

Hi rajul:

Those are for engine stand offs but we don't use them. On the grommets, we only use 4 and the other two in the middle of the cowl I personally use wood screws

Thank you,
Reza.

Pg 38 of the manual mentions that grommets are to be used for the standoff holes.

The rudder hardware pack seems to be short of two 4-40 ball links (four ball links are in the pack) and two 1.5" titanium rods. These are needed for dual rudder servos. Again, in step 6 in pg 25 of the manual, it says these items are provided, but they're not in the rudder hardware pack.

Another discrepancy found is that in page 22 of the manual, step 4, it says to use 2" titanium rods. However, in the elevator hardware pack, the two titanium rods provided are 1.5" in length.

My CF double arm is also cracked and delaminated on one end, but I'll be replacing it with a swb offset arm. I've also replaced the stock fuel tank with a 32oz dubro tank.

Rezagh -> RE: New Somenized Yak 102", Gen III (7/14/2007 8:58:00 AM)

Please email me what's missing and I will have Molly send them to you. The titanium rods for rudder should be provided as mentioned in the manual. We can also send you a CF arm for rudder if you want another one. It should not be as pictured.

Thank you,
Reza

Reza, all help is well appreciated! There's a tristock at the bottom of the firewall which I think will interfere with the installation of two blind nuts. It will be much easier to remove the tristock, installl the blind nuts, then cut and reglue the tristock between the nuts. I would like to check with you if a heatgun will be able to soften the glue enough to remove the tristock? I will request for a spare tristock too just in case I mess this one up during the removal process. Thanks
