2 channel radio system ( Can I us a 3 ch?)

I'm new to RC cars and I'm trying to learn...thank you for your help.

I would of just bought a RTR kit but my bro gave this kit to me......

I have 190 dollar to spend. If someone could tell me what to by for my money it would be very appreciated...ty

.05? most elct motors go buy turns. like a 19 turn aka 19t. Anything lower the a 7t goes into brushless i think.
Also the standard size for anything 1/10 is a 540 motor and most 1/18 use 370 sized motors. Not sure if anything i said will have something to do with what your looking for but "your not going to get the right answer till you ask the right question"

Use the HPI website (www.hpiracing.com) to navigate to the RC kits, then check the discontinued kits. I'm assuming yours is the "Sport." I'm not positive, but I'd guess by the look of the chassis that a ".05" motor is the same as what is today the 540-size motor.

It says on the side of the box I need a 2 ch radio system. Does it matter if I get a FM or AM? What about a 3 ch does that matter?

AM and FM would both work, you only need 2 channels. A 2-channel AM would be the least expensive option, with FM being more costly and the 3rd channel costing a little extra as well. Check out www.towerhobbies.com to browse through some of your options, think about whether you'd prefer a pistol controller or a 2-stick, etc.

I have 190 dollars do you think I have enough for a ESC / RS / BATT CHARGER / BATT / MOTOR (GOOD)? Or should I buy a RTR kit and swap parts when I feel like it?

What is a .05 electric motor? Help

People used to refer to motors by designations like this back in the day but things have come a long way since. Sounds like you need a standard electric motor for your car and I recommend you stop into your local hobby shop with your car for hands-on advice. If that's not possible, then I suggest you buy what we now call a stock electric motor such as a P2K, Monster Horsepower, CO27 and others.

There are many different brands from Trinity, Integy, Orion, Race Prep, etc.... to choose from. There are all kinds from stock motors to low turn mod motors. Hope this helps.

Servo is the thing that mounts in the car that steers the wheels. In most cases you can purchase them with the radio, they will have just the radio, then they will off it with one servo or two, however you want to purchase it. I think $190 is sufficient for what you need.
You can get a inexpensive AM radio for as low as $40 at TH. With servo a little more. A nimh3300 battery would be good, those can be found for about $25. A good charger will run $50. A ESC will run you about $50 but it depends on what turn motor your going to use. If you stay above 15T you can get one for that price, I recommend a duratrax esc.
For a motor, you can go anywhere from a stock 540 for about $15-20 or you can go with a quality modified like a Team Checkpoint Money 19T for $50. I run one of these in my Sprint2 4wd.

I have never heard of .05 motor or engine. I had a RC10 back in 1987 and it was called a 540 back then.

A typical radio system consists of a hand held transmitter, a matching receiver, a 4-cell AA battery holder and two servos. The transmitter sends the signals to your car where the receiver receives them. The servos are two mechanical items that convert those signals to a rotary motion. Servos let you move the steering and on a nitro vehicle moves the throttle on the engine. With electric cars, the second throttle servo is replaced with an electronic speed control (ESC). This item regulates the electricity that goes to the motor which controls your car's speed.

This is very basic stuff and if you really should go to your local hobby shop and/or hobby club to seek advice.
