Hey everybody, I'm an RC car newbie, so bear with me. I picked up this HPI RS4 locally, but it needs a reciever, crystals, and servos(I assume theres two of them, one for throttle, one for steering? tahts what I make of it anyway from the controls).

Anyway. I'm trying to download a manual for the thing so I have all the part #'s and stuff.
Could anybody tell me what model I have? From what I've read, I'll guess that it's an RS4 "2"? I read that the 3rd gen went to a shaft, not belt driven. right?

Thanks everybody! I hope I enjoy my stay here

Did it come in the origanal box where you bought it? You are right though, the RS4 2 is belt and the RS4 3 is shaft. Did your RS4 come with an motor? Try and get a picture posted of your ride too.
You may want to search the HPI website too if you hav'nt done that already.

What do you mean post a picture of my ride, too?

It's a 15FE motor. 0 hours on the car/motor. The guy had it mostly assembled at Tower Hobbies, but then I guess he didn't follow through completely by finishing it.(It's missing the 2 servo's and the reciever as you can clearly see from the pics.)

I'm a newbie, is that all I'm missing? From what I've read I need 1 servo for the throttle, 1 servo for steering, and a reciever/wiring to connect it all together. Is that all?
I don't have the manual. I'm going to download it/print it out, but thats why I posted, b/c I wanted to know which one to print out!

That is the Nitro RS4 2. Besides the servos and Tx/Rx. What you need is the Battery holder if using AA batteries, the foam that goes in the air filter part #A806b. If you can get the 2 speed transmission part #A910 makes a different.

Thanks man.
Did you mean "makes a difference"? does it really make that big of a difference? Would I need a different transmitter to use it? I've got a Futuba 'Magnum Sport'.

Anyway. Thanks for the part #'s.
Wheres the best place to buy this stuff? Where does everybody normally buy their stuff from?

Cool man, thanks. thats where I've been looking for parts.

Would using a high-torque servo(s3010) for the steering, and a normal one(s3003) for throttle/braking be OK, or what?

That would be fine. I have yet had a problem with my stock steering servo. But, because you need one anyway it would not hurt to have more torque. Yuo might want to get a fail safe device to protect you from a runaway car.

Cool man, Thanks for the info. I'll definatly pick one up.

Looks like my shopping list is gettin pretty hefty! It's crazy how this stuff is SO cheap compared to real car stuff, but it adds up just as quickly!
